Heelarious... Seriously Hilarious!

A few days ago, my family went out to dinner.  There was the cutest little baby sitting in a high chair right by our booth.  We thought she was just cute as a button.  My dad thought she had dropped a toy, so he picked it up and handed it to her mom.  Well, it wasn't a toy.  It was a baby booty in the shape of a high heel!!!  A HIGH HEEL!

We literally couldn't stop laughing.  The shoe was super soft and squishy (don't you wish all heels were like that?).  If I had a girl, I would definitely be ordering these!!!  The company that makes them is called Heelarious.  They carry cute styles (including cowboy boots with spurs), but some styles are retiring, so get them while you can!

I got my first pair of "heels" for my fifth grade graduation.  They weren't exactly real heels, but I thought I was so grown up.  I had small feet, so while some of my friends could fit into adult shoes, I was still getting shoes from Stride Rite.  Lucky me.  The shoes were basically mary-janes with a higher heel than normal.  They hurt my feet sooooo badly, but I wanted that extra inch of height.  Half way through the school day, I had my mom bring another pair of shoes because my feet were hurting!

What were your first pair of high heels like?

Lilly Watercolors

I bought watercolors a few weeks ago, but I gave up trying to figure it out after about 30 minutes.  I put the paint, brushes, and paper away and sort of forgot about it.  Yesterday, though, I decided to try it out again.

With my new determination, I set out to recreate some of my favorite Lilly patterns.  I was planning on framing my Lilly Shift Dress Notecards, but couldn't find a frame I liked enough.  I pulled the cards out and set out to paint some of the motifs.

I think I'm going to pull some of my favorite dresses and see if I can paint those patterns too!

Birthday Cake

Friday was Soccer Mom's birthday.  Stacy had a "Bon Voyage Party" (she left for Spain yesterday) with her friend's family.  I made a cake to bring along for dessert.  I went through so many pages of Martha Stewart cakes, but none of them were right for SM's cake.

I finally found a picture of a cake that looked perfect!  Unfortunately, it wasn't a recipe, but one for sale... I figured could make the really cute neapolitan cake by using three cake recipes.  I made vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate cakes and layered them together.  It was DIVINE.  So yummy!!!

Happy Birthday!
How cute are those layers?
Clearly we liked it!

Lilly Fabric Depot

As I have posted before (here and here), Soccer Mom found a bunch of Lilly's at a fabulous consignment shop around the corner from my house.  It is literally fantastic.  We pretty much bought them out of all the best patterns.  We've been using the fabric to make all sorts of projects.  (Making the first cut in a dress is the hardest part...)

Yesterday, I was SO BORED.  I hopped in the car and started checking out places I haven't been to in a while.  I found nothing at Michael's.  I walked every aisle of Target (I did get some cute things though).  That's when I remembered about the Lilly heaven.

I wondered if they had received anything new... When I walk in, I see the Lilly display.  AH.  They had a bunch of capris that were in my size (but WAY less than flattering).  The prints were to die for, but unfortunately, capris don't allow for a lot of useable fabric.

I spotted a skirt in this pattern.  I fell in the love with it!  It has such a great personality.

I found a dress in this pattern.  I can't wait to figure out what to make with the fabric!  (Whoops, the picture uploaded sideways... Tilt your head for the full effect haha!)

And here are the dress and skirt.  They're way too big for me to actually wear, so I don't feel so guilty chopping them up.  The big sizes are actually better for projects because you get a lot more bang for your buck!

I was just about to check out when I saw this!  Initially, I thought of using it for a project, but seeing how it was my size, I decided to keep it!  I had no idea if it would fit or not, but it DOES!  :)  Summer Lilly's make me happy!

Hmmm... What projects should I embark on?

ST Boutiques

Yesterday, Soccer Mom and I went to my absolute favorite shops.  Kate McKenzie is my NUMBER ONE favorite because it carries the absolute BEST brands: Lilly, Vineyard Vines, Lily Pad,  Molly B, Just Madras, Lacoste, and more!  The owner is just an absolute sweetheart.  She always calls my mom or me to let me know when new stuff is coming in...

SM needed to get a few new Lacoste polos... she got her other ones altered and now they don't fit right (Seriously, Mom, who does that?)... We also determined that she has been buying her polos two sizes too big... Jeez louise.  I picked up a navy polo too because my other one is looking a little tired.

Speaking of Lacoste, I bought the CUTEST little dress while we were there.  It fits perfectly.  SM and I brainstormed what shoes and accessories would go (Um, EVERYTHING!).  I think it will look really cute in the cooler Fall months with a sweater..

My next favorite store is conveniently located just a few doors down, so of course we had to stop in.  The Pink Palm is a Lilly Signature store, but they carry a few other brands as well (like Trina Turk).  I wanted to buy the McKim sandals in Navy, but they don't have my size.  How do the McKim's fit?  I'm a true size seven... would a 6 1/2 or a 7 1/2 work?

I ended up leaving with a cute new bathing suit (we call them bsuits in the H household).  It's the Paltrow Patch Bikini... How perfect is it for the Fourth of July?  We're going on Vacation (more details to follow...)

Today, I have officially declared BOREDOM (as if watching The Partridge Family wasn't a red flag).  I'm heading over to Michael's to see about framing my cute Lilly notecards that I just can't bear to use.  I'm also thinking of learning how to needlepoint.

My Summer Obsession

Last summer, I was hooked on Desperate Housewives.  I watched every episode over the course of my vacation...

This year, I am OBSESSED with The Partridge Family.  I've been watching full episodes on Hulu.com.    They are hilarious!  Oh goodness, I might have to check into rehab...

David Cassidy= LOVE.  I really was born in the wrong era!

After seeing some of my earlier posts about my cookie creations, some of my friends wanted me to make cookies for them!  Obviously, being so obsessed lately, I happily agreed to.

I made these fun pink & green cookies for my friend's surprise party!

The pink bucket is from Michael's... and I took seersucker fabric and tied it on the handle.

A pink ribbon to complete the package :)

These cookies were for one of SM's friends.  She gave it as a birthday gift... isn't the teapot perfect?

These blue and red stars are for a hostess gift... I just LOVE the americana tins!

A cute girl from my high school asked me to make 40 cookies for her sister's wedding (which is happening TODAY!).  The cookies were for the out-of-town guests so they had to be individually wrapped.
All 40 lined up and ready to go.

I dusted the cookie with gold luster dust and then used royal icing for the palm tree.  I made those cute little labels to tie on to the cellophane bags.
All done!

It's a great job in addition to my babysitting... I have lots of fun experimenting with different techniques and colors and packaging.

Happy Weekend!

How do you Moms do it???

Oh my lord, I have had quite the week.  I am absolutely exhausted.  "Camp Carly" started on Monday.  I had agreed to babysit a family friend's 10 year old boy while she drove her oldest son back to college in Massachusetts.  I drove to his house before his dad and other brother left for work.  On Monday, we went to Busch Gardens.  ALL DAY.  It was a lot of fun, but oh so tiring.  Temperatures were WAY past 95 degrees... by the end of the day it had reached a wonderful 99 degrees.  AH.

We ended up swinging by my house at 5:30 on our way home to cool off in the pool.  As much as I would have loved to take a nap when I dropped him off at 6:30, I had to decorate 40 cookies for a wedding.  (But they turned out so cute so it was definitely worth it!)

Tuesday morning we headed back to Busch Gardens until lunch.  We left and went to Panera in Hyde Park.  We spent the afternoon painting pottery and then baking chocolate chip cookies.  I was exhausted again.  I don't know how you moms do it!  No sleep for the weary!

Wednesday was only a half day, thank goodness!  We went to Adventure Island, which is a water park.  After a few hours there, we headed to the country club for lunch.  I dropped him off  that afternoon.  Again, I couldn't rest.  Soccer Mom took me along to help her pick out a new purse (check out the preppy things I found!).  That evening I had to make cookies for my mom's friend (the boy's mom actually).

Yesterday, I babysat him again in the afternoon and made some cookies.  I babysat for two other kids last night (10 year old and 2 year old).  I am incredibly exhausted.  AH.

Preppy Totes at Dillards... on sale!

Dooney & Bourke ducks!  How cute is that?

Cole Haan Flip Flops...

J. Crew Display... YUMMY!

Michael's had SO many cute preppy things!

Shopping Theme Park

Soccer Mom and I love to shop and decided to check out some stores we hadn't visited.  A few days ago, we went to Home Goods.  There was a Home Goods near where we lived in Massachusetts, but I hadn't been to the one here.  It's about 25 minutes away.  I considered it more of a hunt... we definitely had to search through a lot of random things (ahem... junk) in order to find the some cute things.

Yesterday, SM and I had a few hours to kill before I went on my babysitting gig.  An Ikea store just opened up.  It was a pretty big deal and it's been extremely crowded.  It's seriously a destination.  It's super close to Ybor City (OK during the day, scary at night!).  We went to La Creperia Cafe which is so yummy!

We split this dessert crepe... Bananas and Nutella. TO DIE FOR.

Then we headed off to IKEA.  I think it's a bad sign when the parking lot looks like Disney's.  There was seriously huge signs designating the parking lot into sections: A, B, C... H.  Soccer Mom and I laughed thinking about Disney's parking lot.  DUMBO 3.

I can't tell you how GIANT the store is.  There are arrows on the floor directing you to the "main area."  We got a kick out of the shortcuts... Hidden doors!

Swedish Meatballs anyone?  There was an entire cafe (actually 2) with tons of food, real silverware, glasses (instead of paper cups), and real plates.

Pretty fabric by the bolt.  They had some amazing children's prints!

Furniture warehouse/showroom.  I was very overwhelmed.  Can you tell how high the ceiling is in the picture???

Alright... On another note... I have had the same digital camera for almost 5 years.  I LOVE it so much.  It's a FujiFilm FinePix and has been absolutely amazing.  It's great too because it's extremely durable.  When I babysit, I don't worry about little kids using it and dropping it.  Sporty Sister has been looking for a new camera (she has the underwater Olympus one, but it takes blurry pictures).  I've been doting on mine and seriously jinxed it.  I had issues with my memory card.  Ugh.  Now I can't click the review button...

Any advice!?  Pretty please :)

Not much to post about...

I don't have much to post about... I've just been hanging out without any cares in the world.

To beat the heat, SM & I went to the movies on Saturday.  We saw "My Life in Ruins."  Not an award winning movie, but a great summer chick flick nonetheless!  We cracked up the whole time!

I babysat a lot yesterday!  In the morning, I only had the little one Iz, but she slept the majority of the time.  I had all three kids at night.  We watched Beauty & The Beast.  Ah.. so many memories!  It was the first movie I saw in the movie theater... but I cried because it was too loud so SD took me home.  My chorus class also performed a bunch of B&B songs for the annual broadway review show.

Today was spent lounging outside on the deck, swimming in the pool, and working on a *secret* project (which I'll reveal at a later time) on the porch.  After being in the sun, I always feel like slipping into a comfortable dress.  Normally, I would choose a cotton J. Crew dress... but recently, I've fallen in love with Vineyard Vines' Nautical Toss Tokeneke dress.  It's incredibly comfortable!

I'm also mad (not really) at California Funk.  Thanks to him, I have Taylor Swift songs stuck in my head!  It's not a bad thing though because she's A-MA-ZING.  I'm basically obsessed with "Hey Stephen" and "You Belong With Me."  The lyrics are basically the stories of my life.  Hmmm...

Well... it's just a baby giveaway... But...

This could be yours!

Nautical wooden frame with your monogram!

Here's the deal!

Who: You, silly!

What:  I want to see everyone's favorite BEACH photo.

Where: Any beach (lakes count, too!)

When:  The deadline for this mini is on next Friday, June 12th.

Why:    I've literally been craving the beach (which is weird because I normally dread going) and beach is practically the definition of summer.

How: Copy and paste the template below into your own blog post.  Obviously, you're going to put your own picture and description into your post :)

Then, skip on back to this post.  In a comment, you need to paste the LINK TO YOUR POST.  NOT THE ACTUAL BLOG!  This is important because I have to be able to look at your post with one click.

Then, on Friday I will look through the pictures... and with the help of Soccer Mom... I'll choose the picture that best exemplifies SUMMER!

College Prepster is hosting a mini-giveaway to celebrate the summer!  What's better way to do that than post favorite beach pictures?

Here's my favorite beach picture:

It's my favorite picture because it really captures what the beach is about.  This is of my best friend and I two years ago.  How pretty is that sunset?  It is extremely serene and peaceful.

If you head over to College Prepster and you can participate, too!

Have fun finding your favorite picture!  I went through albums and albums of spring break trips and summer vacations, but I kept thinking back to this one.

Monogrammed Hospital Gowns

I don't know how many of y'all get Daily Candy emails, but they highlight some really great finds!

This morning I had an email for DK Kids.  It featured a brand called Dear Johnnies.  I clicked the link and was so surprised!  CUTE HOSPITAL GOWNS (and they can be monogrammed)!

Rachel Zinny started making the gowns after giving birth to her first daughter.  If you know someone who has to be in the hospital, I think these would make great gifts.

How stinking cute?

I hope no one HAS to go to the hospital (except to have babies!)
but, this would make it so much better!

Sweet Summertime

Summer afternoon - summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.  ~Henry James

I could not agree more.  This week has just been wonderful.  I've let my mind get a little bit too much in "summer mode" and I had to start writing down all my real responsibilities that I couldn't forget about.
Sunday was extremely relaxing.  SS, SM, and I headed over for our weekly breakfast at the country club.  SM and I decided to eat healthier, so we opted out of our normal egg breakfast for oatmeal and grapefruit halves.  SS headed off to SAT tutoring.  SM and I had been planning a garden for our backyard.  Since SD was in the Keys for a fishing tournament all weekend, we felt like it was the perfect opportunity to make a garden.  We spend the afternoon buying the supplies at Home Depot.

We had the BEST experience at Home Depot... We started off at another popular home improvement store and it was awful.  The guy did not know what he was doing and was less than willing to help us even though we explained that we were novice (VERY novice).  I whispered to SM that we needed to go to HD and work with a "man with a plan."  And let me tell you.  Travis, gardener from HD, was a man with a plan.

If you're looking to start a garden, I recommend starting at Home Depot!

This is where we wanted to start the garden... I'm sure you can see why we wanted to spruce things up! Haha... This was where SD would throw weeds and "see what grew" as experiments...

Raking and pulling up the weeds... not fun!  But a good workout!  I'm still sore... OUCH.
PS If you're getting attacked by as many mosquitos as we were, you should definitely try the new OFF Clip On.  It works SO well!!  I didn't get one mosquito bite (only two spider bites, yum!).  Here's a coupon for a free refill pack!

Worms and slugs were everywhere... but SM and I saw it as signs of healthy soil!

After 8 bags of new soil!

All laid out!

We have it broken up into roughly three sections.  The back two rows are flowers that attract butterflies.  And the front row has lavender, four varieties of peppers, zucchini (or yellow squash... we can't remember what we bought so it'll be a surprise!), cilantro, mint, parsley, and  chives.

Pink Grapefruit Green Tea from Fresh Market.  We made ours Iced and cut some fresh mint from our new garden... Oh my lord it is so delicious!

Yesterday morning, I babysat for two of my next door neighbors.  Princess is the sweetest four year old girl and Iz is a six month old.  Their six (almost seven) year old brother was in school.  While Iz was napping, Princess and I played Disney Princess Wii.  It's surprisingly difficult and I was a smidge frustrated!  Once their mom came home, Princess and I walked to my house and we went swimming together.

Our other neighbors are getting their roof redone, so instead of sitting outside and reading, I decided it would be more private to sit on the porch.  Well, I ended up falling asleep.  It was a really good nap!

I hope everyone else is having a great summer!!!
