Please Pray for my Melly!

My friend Melly has been sick for about three years.  She was diagnosed with Pseudotumor Cerebri three years ago.  She's been receiving spinal taps about every three months to relieve the horrible headaches she has.

She was extremely fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to go to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for further tests.  Melly is such a good friend and I just hope that everything turns out well!!!  I love her so much :)

Please pray!

First Lilly

The other day I was looking through photo albums and came across a picture of me in my first Lilly Pulitzer dress.  I had had a skirt in seventh grade I think, but this was my first official dress.

I was really tall and skinny for my age, so finding clothes that fit was always difficult.  I spent the majority of my middle school years wearing clothes from Gap Kids.  Pants with elastic waist bands are the farthest thing from cool in middle school.  Thankfully, Abercrombie Kids opened in the mall, so at least I could wear clothes that were "in style."

In eighth grade I was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (it was a big deal at the time haha) and I couldn't find a dress anywhere.  By eighth grade, I was pretty adamant on NOT wearing kid's clothing, but I pretty much couldn't fit into anything else.  My best friend was wearing a Lilly dress (adult sized of course) and I was depressed because I wanted to so badly.  My mom and I went to the Pink Palm and found the most mature looking little girls dress we could.  I was in LOVE with it!

So this is me in my first Lilly dress :)  (I hadn't figured out what a flat iron was just yet.)

Games and Trains!

A few weeks ago during one of Florida's monsoons, a neighborhood friend and her daughter stalled their car in front of my house.  Our street pretty much turns into a lake when it rains giving us waterfront property for a few hours.

They came into our house to wait for the water to go down and for the tow truck to come.  My parents are really good friends with them and the kids are the same age as my sister and I.  We talked for a while and she invited the family to a dinner party they were having.

The dad is really lucky and had been invited to go on a aircraft carrier where he met a ton of people, including General Petraeus.  General Petraeus had been to their house before and had so much fun that they decided to do it again.  The dad is really into trains and converted his garage into "The Train Room."  It is absolutely INCREDIBLE.  The General is also a huge fan of foosball so they set up a table for everyone to play.

I also had the chance to meet General Jay Hood and Allen.  Hood was so much fun and super nice!  I just loved him.  General Allen was extremely nice and spoke very fondly of Georgetown (so obviously I liked him instantly).

The whole night was wonderful and we didn't get back home until very late (a good sign of a good party).

General Petraeus and my dad playing foosball with General Hood and a friend.  My dad and his friend beat the Generals!  But, to be fair, my dad had LOTS of practice in college.

Me and General Petraeus.

Good Dog

For as long as I can remember, I have been terrified of dogs.  It's not unusual for me to be afraid of things (including, but certainly not limited to ketchup), but my fear of dogs is right up there.

This week, I have been house and dog sitting for family friends.  My mom assured me that she is a sweetie.  I was worried that I was not going to be able to pull it off, but I LOVE this dog!

Jesse is a retired service dog so she's super trained and well-behaved.  Her previous owner regained his sight (miracle much?) so Jesse wasn't needed anymore.  She still has her vest and can still go anywhere like restaurants and stores.  My mom's been to lunch with her friend and Jesse before!

Being with a dog for the past week has put me in the mood to shop for cute dog things.  This website is AMAZING!  Cutest dog accessories EVER.

I've decided that having a dog is a LOT of work and I'm still not so fond of the barking.  I'm not sure I would ever get a dog, but if I did, I would so get my dog things from Mimi Green.

Please check out this site.  You are sure to drool (no pun intended) over the goodies :)

So my really, really, really cute friend Melly and I took pictures for the Lilly Lover Days contest.  We had so much fun getting ready and matching.  Literally every car that drove past us on Bayshore (if you're from South Tampa or have ever been there, you know how busy it is!) stared at us.  It was hilarious.

We were going to take pictures in Fred Ball Park also, but there was a wedding party photoshoot already taking place.

Help us pick which picture to turn in!  We both have already agreed on our favorite (it's hard to find a picture where both girls agree that their hair, stomach, and face looks good) but we are dying to know what y'all think!

On a side note, don't think I haven't forgotten about the giveaway I hinted at earlier.  I'm dogsitting for a family friend so I've been staying at their house.  I'm still trying to figure out my new schedule for the week!  It seems like a lot of other bloggers have slowed down on the posting too so I don't feel quite as bad.

Thanks for voting!!!

Oh goodness gracious.

I have a slight obsession with grammar and have been known to send textbooks letters explaining what they said or did was wrong.  Oddly, I'm not really that great about my own grammar and I NEVER re-read my own posts because most of the time I'm in a time crunch.  There have been incidents, however, when some "teammates" of mine find it amusing to comment on my posts and correct me, but so far they've been wrong.
Quick story:  My accounting class from H-E-double hockey sticks had group projects.  I had a GREAT group.  The five of us worked incredibly well together.  Each of us had a great "skill" that contributed to the final project.  R was scarily good at Excel spreadsheets, A had a really good eye for the big picture, M was super great at making an outstanding presentation, and K knew everything there was to know about accounting.  I, being absolutely downright AWFUL at accounting was left to edit the ten page final paper.  Naturally, we got a 10/10 for writing quality.  Thank you, thank you very much.

Ok, so back to the point of this post.  I've been doing a TON of reading since the weather has been so nasty.  I just started a new book titled Commencement by J. Courtney Sullivan.  (It's pretty cute... some weird college stories... I haven't finished, but I'll let you know my final review when I do.)

As I'm reading the book, a new character is introduced as the fiance of one of the girl's.  He went to Georgetown (woo!).  But the author kept referring to him as "fratty" and all of his groomsmen were his "fraternity brothers."  This is impossible seeing as how Georgetown is a Jesuit community and does not have a Greek system.  I emailed the author (I've been known to write letters to the editor for the Tampa Tribune frequently) and told her that this wasn't possible.  She responded and apologized adding that it will be corrected in all future editions.  Hahahahahaha.  I'm a bit embarrassed by the whole matter, but thought you all would find it amusing.

Good night!!!

Fourth of July Weekend

Thank goodness we're getting out of town this weekend.  I am incredibly sick of this rain!!!  Even if it rains while we're at the beach, it'll be better than being cooped up in the house.

Sporty Sister is in Spain... I'm so jealous!  We've been getting the occasional Facebook message.  (Mine today: "I had something to tell you, but I don't remember hahahah")  My parents and I were planning on going to Sarasota for the fourth sans SS.  It would be really weird to vacation as an only child, but oh well.  We decided to stay in the Long Boat Key Club, pictured above.  My parents have been there and love it.

A couple of weeks ago, my best friend in the whole in entire world (since we were 4) texted me and asked what I was doing for the fourth.  I told her and she said that her plans cancelled and she had a plane ticket that she needed to refund.  YAY!!! Colie is going to be joining us!!! So here's the deal.  We're taking two cars down to Sarasota tomorrow afternoon.  Colie flies in on Saturday, so I'm going to drive back up and get her and then drive back down!

I'm planning my outfits now (think: coverups and bsuits).  I just cannot wait!

I'll be taking a short hiatus while I'm gone, but when I'm thinking there's going to be a surprise when I get back.... HINT.
