College Prep

A college prepster certainly cannot live without:

How fabulous are these backpacks?!? Check them out at R. Williams. I've never heard of the brand, but I'm so glad I know them now!!! Better late than never, right?

Kate Spade

I took a break from studying and writing papers to check out the current Kate Spade collection. LOVE.

I'm not a huge fan of this shoe. Although it is absolutely gorgeous, I would never personally wear them. I don't typically go for flashy things. HOWEVER, they're named "Carly" so I naturally had to include them on my blog. Nothing EVER has my name. Whenever we go to a place that has touristy things like mugs with names on them, I always check and am unsuccessful. Kate Spade clearly knows what's up :)

Yea, so I basically LOVE this necklace. The length is perfect for sweaters and the gold bow is precious!
This practically speaks for itself. I love how the inside is engraved with "ALL WRAPPED UP." So clever.
I know I'm not the only one obsessed with stationery. Psst...
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. <3

Quick Update

This weekend is going to be crazy! I have so many things going on next week that I have to prepare for.

Monday-
  • Sociology Quiz
  • Statistics Quiz
Wednesday-
  • Statistics group case presentation
Thursday-
  • Witches 6 page paper
  • Theology 6 page paper

Not fun. Plus it's homecoming weekend and we have a regatta on Sunday.

If you need another television show that you want to get hooked on, please watch Modern Family. I watched it last night and was crying I was laughing so hard.

Can't-Live-Withouts for Autumn

Living in Florida, we don't get much of a sense of "Autumn." We wear sweaters with skirts and melt. (You have to suffer for beauty, of course.) Last year, I experienced a real Autumn at school!

Here are things that I just could not bear to live without last year and certainly will not be able to survive without this year:

Vineyard Vines Nor'Easter jacket. You have no idea how cold I get sitting in a boat getting splashed with water everyday at crew! This jacket is a LIFESAVER. I can fit lots of layers underneath it and the outershell keeps me nice and dry. The pockets are lined with fleece which is an added benefit.

I got this VV vest during my senior year of high school. My journalism class was going to Philadelphia for a convention in November. It can easily be thrown over an oxford button down for cooler days, or a short sleeved Lacoste when it's a bit warmer.

I think these Kate Spade shoes are absolutely adorable. They look great with dresses, jeans, and corduroy skirts. They aren't the most comfortable shoes in the world, but I could get through a day of classes with minimal blisters. (Again, we must suffer for beauty!) I originally posted about these shoes in one of my first blogs.

I basically lived in cable knits. I especially love J. Crews for obvious reasons. They're classic, warm, and preppy. And best of all, they can be monogrammed! I have a navy button down with my monogram in white. I swear I wore it once a week last year!

I love the idea of corduroy skirts. When it's not particularly cold out, it's fun to be able to wear a "fall-y" piece of clothing without sweltering. This Lilly skirt looked great with black, white, and gold. On chillier days, I layered with tights.

Burberry quilted coats are a great investment! I received the one above as a Christmas gift. Soccer Mom convinced me to get the one below (in silver though). I didn't think I needed two, but let me tell you, I wore them to death! Yes Mom, you were right. The one with snaps can easily be dressed up or down. It looks fab over dresses or with jeans and riding boots. The zip-up is a bit more contemporary, but just as versatile.

Georgetown is fortunate enough to have a Ralph Lauren Rugby store just off of M Street. I have a green long sleeved Rugby that I wear with skinny jeans and riding boots. Elbow patches are NOT optional.
Tory Burch riding boots. Get them. Wear them. Love them.

I was so excited this morning when I remembered that it was the first day of Fall!!! It's a little sad that summer is absolutely officially over, but I know that it can't last forever. Today was really an off day for me. It was necessarily bad, but it could have been way better. Practice this morning was nothing great and exciting.

Then, I was walking to class and Mr. California Funk broke my sandal!!! I still love you though don't worry. They're old and have already been fixed twice for various reasons. In my Witches class (yes, witches) a boy was sitting next to me and instant messaged his friend about me in a not nice way. HELLO! I'm sitting RIGHT next to you!!!! How rude! My friend (he has a nickname, but is in need of a new one... I'm thinking about it, A!) reassured me that I must have been "more interesting to them than anything else in the class." It made me feel a lot better! I'm having dinner and a study session with Little V, which should make for a better night than my day! :)

I've been super busy between crew practices, classes, homework, and GRH (I will explain this later, don't worry!) that my posting has dwindled to once a week. Remember, you can always follow my Twitter for more College Prepster updates!

PS I got my first comment spamming this morning!!! AH!

What's In My Tote?

I've seen a few versions circulating around the blog scene in the past about what people carry in their purses.

Here is some things I carry in my tote:

  • Pink Georgetown binder (I have a light pink one too!)
  • Pink Georgetown notebook (I have a turquoise one too)
  • Lilly cosmetic case which I use to hold Lilly pencils and pens! (Not pictured: Vineyard vines pencil & pen, Vera Bradley highlighters)
  • Pink TI-84+ Silver Edition
  • Lilly agenda (I know, it's for 2010)... I use a Kate Spade one currently
  • Lilly post-its... I am OBSESSED with post-its! I use them for everything! I even have Vera Bradley ones!
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Eyeglasses
  • Earphones
  • Pink USB flash drive
  • Heavy textbooks
Sometimes I carry around this Lilly bag and I also use a Vineyard Vines one!

Yesterday morning was the first time I have been back on the Potomac since last spring. It was the first time out on the water for the season... The guys had been doing some erging and land training up until Saturday. I was very, very nervous to be coxing with the varsity (ask Little V, she knew I was about to cry!) but everything went well! Every time I get on the water, I remember why I love it so much.

I got some good work done yesterday, thankfully. I've been training for a program this weekend (and next) so my time has been limited. I didn't go out last night either. I'm so not a fan of "partying." I enjoy it occasionally... like, 3 times a year. (Literally.) It has been chilly anyways and getting dressed for cold weather at night is no fun. I'm glad I didn't go out though. I got some reading done for a class and caught up on my sleep!

I'll be heading over to the library later tonight, but I thought I would post a quick entry before!

I hope everyone has a great week!

Dear Freshmen,

Dearest Freshmen,

Congratulations on being accepted into the best university. I'm sure that everyone back home is very, very proud. I totally get why you bought twenty college shirts, four pairs of sweatpants, three plastic water bottles, and an obnoxious back pack, all in school colors.

You must be pretty intelligent to have been accepted. Kudos for that. Please note, however, that everyone else sitting in class with you is smart as well. We all took advanced placement courses, we all scored well on the SATs, and, quite frankly, a lot of us won state championships.

Remember this when you introduce yourself to the student sitting next to you in, say, your economics recitation. You do not need to explain that you took both AP Micro and Macroeconomics. Or that you scored a five on your BC calculus exam. Or that you were the valedictorian. You're in college now. This isn't high school. No one cares that you were inducted into the National Honor Society.

Once class begins, refrain from yelling out the answers. Especially if you are wrong. Raise your hand politely, and wait to be called on. If the teaching assistant asks if anyone has a question, do not ask a question to simply ask a question. For instance, do not ask for the TA to clarify what the professor meant when he said "weighted equally." Weighted equally means that everything is weighted equally!

If you are in a class with upperclassmen, please do not try to be cool and smart and show off. It is downright annoying. Chances are, you Know-It-Alls do not know it all. Pretend for a minute how it would feel if you were in a classroom with younger students who were trying to monopolize the classroom. Exactly.

Have a great year!

Stacks

I am definitely not a "jewelry girl." I go through phases where I love certain jewelry and wear them to death, and other times I can survive without wearing any. [Except for earrings... I feel naked without them!]

The jewelry I wear the most all have special meanings behind them, like I received it as a gift or something. I also love to layer my favorite pieces! When I layer bracelets, I call them "stacks."

Here is my current favorite "stack":

Thin gold cuff- Inscription: LIVE YOUR DREAMS; Received: After being accepted to Georgetown; From: My mom
Pearl Bracelet- Monogram charm; Interesting fact: I lost the original one when touring colleges in North Carolina
David Yurman- This is my new favorite; Why I love it: It has gold, silver, and pearls!!!

What is a piece of jewelry that you can't live without?

Okay, now let me fill y'all in a little bit on how my first week went. I'm absolutely loving my classes so far (I know, I know... we've only met once, but still). I think a few are going to be a lot of work, but I think I'll definitely be able to manage. I've only had one breakdown so far, haha, it's all good now!

My weirdest class is about Witchcraft... It counts towards my Humanities credit. I like the professor and part of our grade is based on blog entries we do about the reading, which is pretty cool. I'm really looking forward to my theology and sociology classes though! I love the professors and the coursework is very interesting.

Random picture, but how cute! California Funk and I were matching. He ended up changing though :(

I probably won't be able to do as many posts as I would like to because of my course load and crew practices. If you simply cannot live without knowing what I'm doing every minute... Follow my twitter!!! I love tweeting... As long as I'm not in class, I post about random musings throughout the day.

A Peek into My Dorm

I have an hour (actually less than that now ah!) until my next class, but I thought that I would show y'all what my dorm looks like! I know you guys are at the edge of your seats with suspense!

Here's my bed... The refrigerator doubles as my night stand, woo! Yes, that is my American Girl alarm clock from elementary school. Our room doesn't allow for much flexibility in floor plans. Our beds are both against walls, which makes making the bed a hassle!
Little vanity nook thingie.
We have a large wall unit of shelving that includes our closets... Here are my three shelves. So exciting, I know.
My desk! It's a lot smaller than mine last year, but I like it!

Sorry for the short post! I'll be back later with more details of my first week back!
