My 2009 Favorites

Here are 10 things I LOVED during 2009 that I will continue to LOVE throughout 2010!

1) Hunter Wellington boots... I got them towards the end of '09, but I'm already obsessed. I know I will continue to wear them for years to come. I'm not such a huge fan of weird colored ones though. If you're looking to buy some, stick to the neutral colors. (PLEASE do not get the silver ones. Soccer Mom kept cracking jokes about them looking like the Tin Man's shoes!)

2) David Yurman Pearl Cable bracelet. It goes with everything. You can wear it with jeans and a tee, or a LBD. They're also great for layering with other bracelets (I call them stacks). A good investment in the jewelery department in my opinion.

3) Fun headbands! Don't get me wrong. I love bows and ribbons as much as the next prepster, but fun headbands (like mine from J. Crew) really add a little spice to an outfit. Make sure that a headband does not hurt. I get the idea of wearing shoes that are uncomfortable for fashion, but a bad headband will cause a headache within minutes!

4) FLANNELS. Fordham Prepster is a big fan. And so am I! I have a black and red one and just added this navy and red one to my wardrobe this break. They're the epitome of casual. Anyone can pull them off! If you're planning on wearing a flannel with leggings, make sure it's long enough to cover your bum.... please!

5) GLEE- Seriously is an explanation necessary?

6) Dogeared necklaces. I have a small collection of them, but this one is my FAVORITE. Soccer Mom got it for me during my junior year of high school. I was going through a very difficult time (oh you know, typical high school drama). It seemed like everyone at school hated me (don't worry, they'll be kicking themselves in 10 years when they realized the peaked in high school and I'm doing something amazing with my life). I wear this nearly five times a week. It's my good luck charm!

7) Bath & Body Works' Warm Vanilla Sugar perfume. I melt a little every time I put it on. And it's very affordable. I typically pick out a different perfume every school year (it's so nice to smell an old scent and old memories come flooding back), but I might just stick with WVS for a while!
8) Puffer vests are the best. I wear mine (navy Vineyard Vines) ALL the time. You can verify with California Funk. They go great over J. Crew tissue tees on a chilly day or over a sweatshirt on a cold day. Get one that fits snugly, but has enough room for a sweatshirt. And good pockets are a MUST.

9) Kate Spade shoes. I am in love with Kate Spade. The designs are edgy, but also classic. I have a pair of semi comfortable loafers. And I just got these cuties for a LBD. Surprisingly VERY comfortable (like dancing for 3 hours straight and still no blisters comfortable). They also fit true to size, which is a plus.

10) Classic riding boots. Get out those skinny jeans and stick your toes into these. I basically wear my riding boots almost everyday. I have these brown Tory Burch Jackson riding boots and a pair of black Banana Republic ones. If you don't already have a pair, get on it!

It's been quite a year. Better than the last. Can't wait for 2010!

ONE YEAR!

One year ago [from yesterday], I published my first post.

I decided to make a blog one late night in my freshman dorm's common room. I was super stressed out about final exams. I kept saying how I wanted to do something cool and different... I came up with the name first: College Prep. And the rest sort of fell into place.

I couldn't start the blog until after exams, of course. I came home, caught up on sleep, and then began my "blog research." I designed and cut out (by hand) my header and then photoshopped it until it was perfect.

I honestly had NO idea what my blog would turn into.

My blog has opened doors that I didn't even know where down the hall.

In the past year, I have:

Gained 182 followers on Blogger
Gained 235 followers on Twitter
Written a book after realizing how much I enjoy writing
Gotten a behind the scenes tour of a preppy company
Been inspired in countless ways
"MET" SO MANY AMAZING PEOPLE

Thank You!

Hannukah and Hillary

My last final is tomorrow!!! I know, I know... SOOOO late. You have no idea how hard it is to focus when everyone (who isn't stranded, of course) is home. Throw a day full of snow in the mix, and you have a very difficult study environment!!!

I spent most of the Saturday working in the library. I ended up giving up and going to play in the SNOW! I started studying with friends at 10 this morning and continued until 5 when I decided I was in need of a study break.

Since Hanukkah occurred while I was still at school, my mom sent me a box of presents. Each was individually wrapped and labeled for the appropriate night.
  1. Lilly cups
  2. Christmas tree peeps (not in the picture because California Funk, Fordham Prepster, and I ate them all within seconds of me opening them)
  3. Lilly pencils
  4. Lilly highlighters
  5. Pocket Lilly Pad
  6. Christmas tree Reese's (again, consumed upon opening)
  7. Soy Lotion MILK by Archipelago Botanicals [best lotion EVER]
  8. Tin of mints!

On the 14th, Hillary Clinton gave a speech on Human Rights on campus. The event was at 12, doors opened at 11, and I got in line at 10. It was so chilly waiting outside. The line wrapped around a parking lot and snaked along side a few buildings. Everyone was studying which was pretty funny to watch. Even though we got there early, we were only at the half way point. We ended up being part of the last twenty people to get inside. SOOOO lucky!

Wish me luck on my statistics final tomorrow!!!

Holiday Gala

Sorry for the lack of posts, I have been putting in some major hours in the library studying for finals and writing papers. I have two term papers (one of which I turned in on Monday, thank goodness) and three finals. Since I have an exam on the 21st, I still have just under a week left before I can officially be on break. Booooo!

Here are some pictures from December though!

Little V, Lookey Pookey, and me crashing a party. You know, nbd. We're all living together next year! Can't wait!

Fordham Prepster took me as his date to the Holiday Gala on Saturday. I typically don't like these sorts of thing (large crowds, loud noises, etc) but I had so much fun!!! [PS My shoes are from Kate Spade and they are sooooo comfortable!!!]

Festive!

I picked out California Funk's tie from J. Crew. He wasn't so sure about it, but he received countless compliments on it (except for my dad, he's crazy, I know).

Boys look so much cuter dressed up! Don't you agree?

Me and my boys! I'm obsessed with this picture!

UPDATE: A close-up of CF's tie. Such a win.

It's Electric!

Boogie woogie woogie!

My hair has been looking like this lately!!! The cold, dry weather is NOT helping my locks. I stopped straightening my hair (my split ends are thanking me) and leaving it curly, but I'm sill having an issue. I don't have this problem in humid Florida... but I have the best trick ever!
DRYER SHEETS! Seriously, it works like a charm!

Crazies

I'm trying to get rid of my "crazies." Trust me, there are plenty of them.

I have HATED ketchup for as long as I can remember. I literally can't touch a bottle. I use napkin holders to create a barrier between me and ketchup on other people's plates. Looking at it gives me the chills and makes me feel sick.

On Saturday night, I told some of the rowers that I was getting rid of the crazies and that I wasn't crazy anymore. (Side note: they call me Crazy Carl.) One of them demanded that I prove it by eating ketchup.

They squirted a little onto a fork... I had a little meltdown when one of them thought it would be funny to put it on my hand. But, I successfully tasted it.

California Funk didn't see it and he couldn't believe he missed it so he made me do it again for him. It tasted a lot stronger than I remembered. Just like the smell but 10 times stronger.

Fordham Prepster came up with the idea that I should try to eat it every chance I get. So I had a french fry with a dot of ketchup.

Baby steps people... Baby steps.
