Settle in girls, it’s Story Time [Anyone like broadway musicals? Shrek perhaps?]:

Way back in January, I was sitting in a 15 passenger van crammed in the last row between two rowers driving back from Columbia, SC for our winter training trip. The driver was dead set on being the first van back to campus (these rowers are competitive, everything is a competition). Unfortunately, he drove 45 minutes in the WRONG direction before we realized we were going south instead of north. Everyone was on edge. I get antsy on three hour bus rides, so you can only imagine what I was like after seven. I pulled out my laptop and saw a crack on the inside. I burst into tears and ended up having a mini-panic attack! I take really good care of my laptop and had no idea how it happened!

None of these pictures are my laptop, but it’s EXACTLY what happened to mine!

I googled it, and found out that this was a very common problem and that Apple would fix it for free. Of course, I didn’t get around to going to the Apple store until this past Friday.

I decided to make the trek to the Pentagon City Apple store. This involves a walk from campus to the Rosslyn metro station and a quick metro ride right to the mall. I’m really beginning to love public transportation. Seriously, it’s awesome that you can pay less than two dollars and go anywhere! [Don’t even get me started on the Circulator…. It. Is. Amazing.] Even though one of my mean friends doesn’t think that traveling so far is a big deal- it is!

I made an appointment at the Genius Bar. Explained the problem. Left my laptop. Went shopping in Nordstrom. Ate a McFlurry, whoops. Went back to the Apple store. And voila! I had a fixed laptop! They even replaced the keyboard!!!

Why this was good:

  1. California Funk wrote on my laptop a couple of weeks ago and you could sort of see the blue ink. I was way not happy about that one.
  2. California Funk had just pointed out to me that some of the letters on my keyboard were rubbed off. The E was almost all gone!
  3. I had a ghetto fabulous piece of scotch tape keeping the edges from completely breaking off.
How much did this cost, you ask: FREE! Woo!

xoxo

It is so weird that you posted about this, because I tweeted about the exact same thing happening to my macbook! It is not even a year old yet, so I was freaking out…this post makes me feel better as well as several tweets I received yesterday on this subject. Thanks again!

The same exact thing happened to my computer…it still has the ghetto scotch tape holding it together b/c there is no apple store where I go to school! I will definitely need to get that fixed when I go home! :)!

that happened to me too! brought my lap top in for something unrelated, but they replaced it for me. they also replaced my disc drive that I had been avoiding fixing due to the $300+ cost. all for free! plus, they let me in after they closed and gave me chocolate! being a girl is wonderful 🙂
