what is tumblr?

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about what tumblr even is and why I need one and how does it work.

I think the best way to describe it is as “micro-blogging.” It’s more random, quicker, and spur of the moment. You don’t have to spend an hour typing a full “post” like you do in Blogger. Like any new website, it takes a little bit of getting used to, but it’s so easy to play around that I got the hang of it pretty quickly… I think.

Why do I need a tumblr? I feel a little constrained by Blogger. I love it–Don’t worry, I’m not giving up on it– but I’d like a little more freedom. I’ve been posting only once a day on College Prep (I know, this is the second post…. breaking the norm!) and sometimes there are things I want to say that I don’t think “belong” on my real blog.

I’m going to use my tumblr page as a way of expressing more “Carly” and less “College Prepster.” I’ve always said I’m crazy, you might actually get it now by reading my tumblr…. and the ridiculous things that happen in my life too. (I really and truly think that it’d make an entertaining movie or television show.)

OH! And California Funk‘s on it too! His photographs are so amazing.

The dashboard is a lot simpler than Blogger, which makes uploading a breeze (CF–can you think of “breeze” again without thinking of DW???). You have the option of uploading text, photos, quotations (really fun), links, a chat (this is fun too), audio, and video (way way way easier than blogger).

While I’m on the subject of new web pages, I think I should mention flavors.me. California Funk is not going to be happy that I didn’t dedicate an entire post to his tumblr and amazing photographs (which to give him credit are really legit). But, he did help me design my flavors.me. It’s really cool and you can see my blog posts and tumblr posts and tweets all on one page!
Check it out- let me know what you think!

xoxo

PS I hope my parents aren’t reading this and thinking that I’m not studying for exams! haha Confession: All my posts on College Prep have been scheduled. I wrote a bunch so I wouldn’t have to worry for a while!

Thanks for the explanation! Procrastination was always my problem in college. I felt like I did my best work at the last minute though. 🙂 Or at least that's what I told myself.
