Lilly Notebooks

Normally I would use two three-subject notebooks for all of my classes (one for MW classes and another for my TR classes).

But this semester I'm going to test out using a different notebook for each class (of course Lilly ones!). I'm thinking that this is going to cut down on some unnecessary bulk. With the three subject notebooks, I typically end up only using two of the sections, and the third one is just wasted. We'll see how this works out!!!

Four of the Five notebooks.
From Left to Right: Vintage Patch, Mumsie, Animal Crackers, & Cabanarama. (Not pictured: Master of the House purchased from Rue La La)

I asked Jack at Lilly if he could locate the large sized folders for me. And he really came through!!! A Lilly store in Ohio had them in stock and so I had the four folders shipped them to DC!

The notebooks came all wrapped up with the most adorable ribbon.

I couldn't let the ribbon go to waste, so I tied it around the lamp!

A little Preview

I'm not ready to show y'all my room yet... but I can tell you the bedding I got!

Green gingham from Pottery Barn Kids. I'm using sheets from Martha Stewart... just white with lace trim. And I'm using the same pillows from my regular dorm room bedding. The green matches really well!

I promise to post more pictures when I'm finished getting the room together!

Organize, Please- Chargers and Cords

Are you one of those people who goes crazy with cords everywhere??? It's the one part I absolutely hate about technology: Ugly cords hanging everywhere.

I saw this trick on a chain email my mom sent me during the summer. But I really liked the idea. And guess what! IT WORKS!!! One of my biggest pet peeves is how to keep cords from falling on the floor. I hate having to touch the ground trying to find the chargers for my cell phone/laptop.

Problem: Fallen cords/chargers
Solution: I clipped two Vera Bradley clips to the clear part of the desk.

Look how perfect they stay up! TAKE THAT GRAVITY!!!

The picture above is how the chargers look when the phone and and laptop are unplugged.

And the picture below shows how they look when they're plugged in.

This might actually be one of my most favorite things in the world right now.

If you want to try this, here's a video:

Homework... not yet at least.

School is only a few short days away!!! Those exclamation points aren't really excitement... More like a type of proclamation.

I just arrived in D.C. a few short days ago. I've been trying to get my room in order... and it's almost there. I'll post pictures once I get everything together (aka after my birthday... you'll see why later!).

In the back-to-school spirit, I'm going to post a picture that I'm pretty sure I've included in a previous post a while ago. I've been receiving numerous emails (not including the 28 questions I was asked on my tumblr... annoying, by the way) about study tips.

***Disclaimer for Gtown-students-who-think-it's-fun-to-harass-me-and-my-blog-via-anonymous-comments.... please know that this is not something I think everybody in the world should do. It's simply me sharing my own study tips with the hope that it will help someone else.****

Okay, now that that's out of the way--

This is how I organize my typical homework assignments. I go through each syllabus Friday morning after practice. I write down every assignment in a notebook (the mini-notebook from Lilly and Lifeguard Press). I try to get all of it out of the way during the weekend, and leave the studying/reading for during the week. And cross it off as I complete it.

My agenda is used mostly for important meetings and the schedule of my classes. I write down the dates of midterms/tests/quizzes/etc. But for the most part, homework stays out of it.

Okay kiddies... Hope this helps!

Minnetonka!!!

Obviously it's way too hot out for these now... But my feet are going to be thanking me once the winter rolls around. Soccer Mom and I picked these two pairs up this weekend! Can't wait!

Lil Blue Boo- Subway Art

Do you guys follow Lil Blue Boo? Seriously, the best best best crafting/sewing blog ever. Boo (the daughter) is the most precious thing in the entire world. And Ashley is incredibly talented. I'm so jealous of her painting abilities. [No really, take a look at her portraits!!!]

I was showing Soccer Mom some of the portraits the other day and we stumbled on an older post with a tutorial for a Subway Art sign.

Epic, right??? [CP Sidenote: we changed HIKE OFTEN to DON'T JUDGE] The tutorial calls for the crafter to make a wooden thingamabob to paint on... but considering that SM and I are not gifted in that world, we just used a canvas!

We placed it on the wall behind the wet bar in between the living room and kitchen. It really ties the two rooms together. And your eye is really drawn to it when you walk in from either room.

In order to put it on that wall, we had to do some rearranging of other hung paintings. Our Tampa house (we have one for every city) was moved to the back wall. And one of my own paintings [a little recreation of Hopper's Chop Suey] was moved to hallway by the mudroom.

Well I couldn't stop with just the one in the living room... oh no... Soccer Mom has a little Microsoft Word problem of cutting and pasting ALL the time. Oh my word, she cuts and pastes everything. So I made this one for her office! [CP sidenote: I recommend using fonts sans serif... this one was SO difficult to cut out.]

And I made a little one for Sporty Sister.... um, so I guess y'all know her name now! Hope she doesn't mind!!! This font was really fun! But it was so difficult to cut out the little "ann."

I just want to thank Ashley from Lil Blue Boo for sharing such a wonderful tutorial!!!

Last Day

Today is my last full day home :-(

I leave bright and early Wednesday morning. I'm excited to see all my friends. I can't wait for crew to start back up. And I'm anxious (in a good way) for my internship.

But I'm definitely going to be missing a few things about being home. I've loved spending time with my family, having brunch on Sunday mornings at the cc, drinking countless Starbucks iced coffees, seeing my friends, doing crafts, sewing, reading, swimming, baking, babysitting the best littles ever, and more. I know I'm also just going to miss the aspect of being home.

In past summers, we've had to use all sorts of tactics to fend off the mosquitoes. For some reason, we had NONE this summer. THANKFULLY. This meant we could read out on the porch. Which I loved loved loved :)

A perfect place for a warm cat nap :)
And great for grilling!

Where's your hideout from the summer sun?

Post It for Laptops!

Ummmm. Hello. GEN-IUS.

A Post It dispenser for laptops!!!

I think California Funk is gonna like these too!
Some pictures from the Post It website.

Oh hello there, Post Its within reach!

Don't forget the milk!

The packs are really thin. Which is great because you can still fit your laptop in a case! But they include 50 sheets! Wow! It's really easy to replace a pack of notes or remove from your laptop.

I'm just saying, this is going to make trips to the library a LITTLE more bearable :)

xoxo

PS:
Post It = sticky note
Xerox = photo copier
Kleenex = Tissue
Q- Tip = cotton swab

Does anyone else play this game???

Post about Post Its!

Post It notes have really gone all out this season. I can't even describe to you how excited I was in the office supply store looking at row after row after row of great Post It products.

So remember the whole "re-branding" idea? Well, Soccer Mom and I have been working on all kinds of projects in efforts to make the new brand of the academic foundation more noticeable and memorable.

If anyone knows Soccer Mom, you know that her "sig" (with an S not a C... ew gross) is fun file folders. She has the BEST collection of them.

For the high school's open house, the board members needed to pass out donor forms. And what better place to put them in but a CUTE file folder. (The colors of the high school are black and gold.) We jazzed them up with labels from Post It. What do y'all think?

These labels are Avery... not Post It.... but the 1 inch size are perfect for topping off water bottles and labeling other little things. I even made some up for theCollegePrepster.com

And a great product by Post It are these fabulous name tags!!! They're designed to move WITH fabric.... GEN-IUS.

Really cool other Post It product tomorrow!!!

Lifeguard Press + Lilly = College Preppy

When a representative from Lifeguard Press emailed me asking me if I'd review a few items from the Lilly Pulitzer stationery (e not a) collection, I was thrilled!!!

I absolutely could not say no!

Sticking with the College Prep theme (woo!), we decided that reviewing some "back-to-school" products!!! I've been receiving between 10 and 15 emails a day requesting back-to-school shopping tips. I'm not even exaggerating.

So fellow prepsters, buckle down for some great things!!! Here we go!

First up, the agenda and pen. I was first taken aback by the size of the agenda. I was thinking that a 17 month calender would have to be huge, but it's the PERFECT width. Definitely NOT too bulky to throw in a tote or backpack, or even a purse! I love that you get more bang for your buck with the extra five months!

I already have an agenda, so Sporty Sister will be sporting (ha) it at the University of Florida! She's going through Rush right now, I'm so excited (and totally nervous) for her. Hopefully the agenda will inspire her to be on top of her homework ;-) Love ya SS!

The pen is absolutely precious. It definitely has a professional feel (since it's a metallic material), but is still fun and preppy! It's also a really good weight. Sturdy, yet not rigid.

Here are some more pictures of the inside of the agenda:

Totally loving the fonts/patterns/colors!!! And a whole page of stickers? Hello, LOVE.

And they sent me some more Lilly highlighters! I had some for last year at school, but I was a highlighting fiend and the ink was running out. So psyched to have a NEW batch! From personal experience, I absolutely loveeeee the green one! And this is a DIRECT quotation from a boy (seriously) who borrowed them: "I feel more and more fabulous every time I use them!"

The picture includes my cosmetic case turned pencil pouch, with two pens (one I already had), and the new highlighters!!!

And I'm totally saving the BEST for last.
Two in ONE! Sticky notes with Lilly pad. These puppies are so perfect for OCD list-makers like myself. You will be seeing future notes everywhere around blog as school starts back up! And the cabanarama matches my PEN! Woo!

I want to send a BIG thank you to Lifeguard Press for asking me to participate. I'd also like to mention, that although these items were sent to me free of cost, I really really really do endorse them fully. Seriously. They're the best and most creative and preppiest paper goods out there.

*****
And before I sign off, here's what I got from my Rue La La order:
4 Pocket folders
1 large notebook
1 mini notebook
(not pictured): Lilly pad with stickies, a pocket Lilly pad, and Stuck on You sticky notes.

Essential School Item

Pencil pouches are one of the most important items for back-to-school!

I always had the ugliest ones throughout middle and high school. But Sporty Sister came up with the best idea ever. She took (well, stole) one of my cosmetic cases and used it as a pencil case. Can you say GEN-IUS?

Cosmetic cases are perfect for pencils, pens, highlighters, etc. because they're LINED. You don't have to worry about that sneaky highlighter leaking through a cute pattern. (Please tell me I'm not the only one that this has happened to!) They're also perfect in size since they're designed to hold makeup brushes. Here are some that would be a perfect addition to a tote (or a backpack).

Lilly Pulitzer. This is what I use.. and it's perfect! I have it in the Mumsie print.

Stephanie Johnson- Just stumbled across this website, and I'm really loving the prints. Check out all the different styles/prints. To die for!
These two are from Kate Spade. I like the clear a lot... it would look so cute filled with bright colored pens and pencils!

And finally, a really cute one from Target!

*****
I REALLY want this Kate Spade pencil case. It's actually designed for pencils. It comes with those ADORABLE erasers and pencils!!! A local stationery (E not A) store at home and I lust over it every time I walk by!

Winner of the Lilly TOWEL

I spent another day out by the pool, and realized that the towel is printed with the story of Lilly and her juice stand! It made me love the towel even MORE (which I didn't think was possible).

And the winner is...

Congratulations to Sweet Southern Girl!!!

Email me SSG, and I'll pass your email/name over to the Pink Pelican!

Thank you so much to everyone who entered. With nearly 400 entries, my eyes were beginning to cross typing in everyone's entries. I've had so much fun hosting giveaways this month, but this looks like the last one for a while. Sad, but that just means more CP posts :)

Carly's Current Obsessions

Nail Polish
Totally weird because I used to HATE having my nails painted. And now I can't stop painting them!!! I have a good system in place so I don't get the icky feeling that has deterred me in the past.
Iced Coffee
I'm absolutely loving this stuff. Even if it makes me jittery (my hands shake so much!!!). Soccer Mom and I have been experimenting with different *bux locations. I have my favorite! It has to be the perfect blend and the perfect color.

Wedges
So I'm trying not to be as boring clothing wise. Sometimes I get stuck in the rut where I wear the same ole, same ole. But I'm LOVING my new wedges. Even Sporty Sister has borrowed them. That is saying something.

Kate Spade
No explanation necessary.

Photoshop
Editing pictures, reading tutorials, creating logos (for the academic foundation at my HS), designing posters (for my internship).

Branding
Move over social media, it's all about branding yourself/company/life now. Not in the cattle way though, of course.

Kid movies
Re-watching all our favorites: Cheaper by the Dozen, Parent Trap, Matilda, Princess Diaries, A Little Princess (PS they're making a new version with the girl from The Orphan!)

Ray Bans
I love my new glasses! Unfortunately, now I can't not wear them.
xoxo

PS There's still a few more hours to enter my Lilly GIVEAWAY!
