Back to School :: Bedding

I’ve been getting lots of questions via email, Tumblr, and Twitter about favorite bedding sources for back to school.  Shopping for dorm bedding, especially for freshman year, is quite exciting.  Before you figure out where you want to get your bedding from there are a few things to keep in mind.
1) Ask current students or look in online discussion boards about what kind of beds your dorm has.  I know at Georgetown some dorms are the typical dorm room Twin XL, but there is at least one dorm that only has regular twin beds.  Better to find this out now!!!
2) Realize that beds in a dorm room are more than beds.  They’re couches, kitchen tables, desks, etc.  With limited space, your bed is prime seating.  White and other light colors can (and most likely will) get really dirty.
3) If you’re like me, you’re going to have your bedding for a long time so you should make sure it won’t go out of style and you won’t get sick of it.
4)  If you have a Twin XL bed, note that you can use a regular twin size comforter.  The sheets, however, must be XL.
5)  Definitely invest in a mattress topper.  Look through magazines and mailers for Bed, Bath, and Beyond coupons!
Okay, ready to shop???
Tommy Hilfiger sheets are perfect for dorm rooms.  If you decide on a plain colored comforter, you can buy a few sets of sheets and swap them out every time you wash them.  You’ll always have a new look for your room!
(I have the top set… pink and green with the palm trees… Love it!)
Serena & Lily‘s collection of children’s bedding is perfectly sophisticated.
Garnet Hill offers twin sized Lilly Pulitzer bedding that can be coordinated with your roommate!
PB Teen basic bedding can be mixed and matched… they come in all sorts of pretty colors.  (I like the green!)

Decor 2 Ur Door lets you match your bedding with your sorority.
Where are you getting your bedding from this year?
xoxo

I got my duvet and a pillowcase from Jack Wills (a primarily British retailer)- the duvet cover is reversible, wide pink and navy striped on one side and navy floral on the other! I'm an incoming freshman so I cant speak to how well it holds up / looks in a space with a roommate's stuff but I love the design and quality, can't wait to see it in action soon. :] I'm planning on getting white sheets or a small, light pattern – and at least 2 sets, of course!

I remember when I was in college back in the 90's I had two comforter sets, one Ralph Lauren and the other Laura Ashley, when Laura Ashley was popular. Of course I would rotate them. Funny thing I still have them today and keeps them in the back of my suvs for when I need to move or hide something. Point if my response, buy quality! Quality lasts!

I think I have an unhealthy obsession with bedding. I bought a set of Tommy Hilfiger bedding before my freshman year and it lasted me for 2 years in the dorm…I had green striped sheets with pink flamingos, and green/pink plaid comforter. The only reason I won't be using it anymore is because I'm moving off campus and was gifted a queen-sized bed. I would definitely recommend it though. Mine's still in great condition so I gave it to my sister for her twin bed.

I love the pretty sheets. If you want a really neat idea for bedding, check out bunk bed huggers. They can turn a simple bed into a lovely place to lounge. They are fitted comforters and they come in twin XL and lots of fabrics to choose from. They are for all types of beds.

I guess this is an older post now, but super helpful as I’m shopping for back to school this year!! I ended up getting my basics (duvet, pillows, mattress topper) from Canadian Down & Feather (free shipping!!). Now I’m looking for the perfect sheets & duvet cover
