Yes, it's getting colder. Yes, I've been drinking hot coffee (and hot coffee drinks) like it's my job. Yes, I'm dreaming of warm sweaters and cozy boots.
But I'm totally having a smoothie moment right now.
Not exactly the best thing while it's cooling off outside, but it's still delicious. And I've been craving all kinds lately. I guess it started because I was feeling so sick all the time. I never have stomach issues; I'm much more of a migraine girl. But all the stress in August/September (there was plenty to go around) at work literally had me sick to my stomach every day. Thinking about food was making me even sicker. A couple of other girls were having similar issues (feeling sick at work is not fun, but misery certainly loves company) and someone suggested smoothies.
There's a Juice Generation down the street from me and I've been going there a little bit too frequently. Some of the smoothies I like, but I really would rather make them at home. It's cheaper and I can really better choose what I want and don't want in it! A couple of my friends have Magic Bullets and let me tell you: I'm jealous. I think I've been brainwashed by one too many infomercials. When I saw that Rue La La had a Magic Bullet looking thing online, I jumped on it. (Well, first I researched it on Amazon and it had pretty amazing reviews!)
It's the Cuisinart 32oz Stainless Steel Portable Chopper (on Amazon). I can't wait for it to get here so I can start smoothie-ing it up.
To get prepared (and more excited) for its arrival, I'm pulling some smoothie recipes from around the internet. Hopefully this will also hold me accountable for using the darn thing! Disclaimer, I also have no idea if smoothies are actually healthy or not. But they can't be terrible for you right?
Green Ginger Peach // Martha Stewart
I am obsessed with ginger. I love absolutely anything that has ginger and so I feel like this will absolutely be a winner. It even has spinach in it, so there's a little hidden green in there. Plus, this is a great recipe to finally put my honey from the Waldorf to good use!
Watermelon Strawberry // Food Fanatic
Maybe a little summery, but I'm not complaining. I think this would be super refreshing for mid-afternoons or post workouts (if I worked out... eep).
Beetroot, Carrot, Apple, and Mint // Chantelle Grady
All of her recipes look amazing, but particularly this one. All sorts of amazing. Sign me up.
Hearty Fruit and Oat // Martha Stewart
Confession: I don't eat breakfast. It's a terrible habit I'm in, but I typically dig right into work and skip over the eating thing. Of course, 2pm rolls around and I've forgotten about lunch and I'm two seconds away from fainting. I think this smoothie is perfect for filling up in the morning, right?
Ginger Berry and Oat // Real Simple
Again, ginger? Love it already. Now I'm really curious how the whole oats-in-a-smoothie thing works. Must try.
Okay, now I must know... What are some of your favorite smoothie recipes? Anything I should absolutely try (or read)?
