On My Radar

This week was a doozy, in a good way. On Monday, I spoke on a panel about blogging that was hosted by General Assembly. I was so impressed with their team and loved the whole concept. They offer a ton of courses– full time and part time– and host free events frequently. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the NYC area. (I’m really interested the data analytics course!)
On Tuesday, I was a part of a denim photo shoot for StyleWatch Magazine, and it was so much fun. I don’t really know what I was expecting, but it ended up being a huge and super legit production. I felt a little intimidated! I wish I had thought to Snapchat more behind the scenes… there was hair, makeup, nails… a stylist… a seamstress who was hemming jeans on the spot… and so many other elements. I felt like a mini-celebrity for the day! When we started shooting, I couldn’t stop laughing because there was an actual fan to make my hair blow, just like you see in the movies!!! The issue comes out in October, and I already can’t wait to see what photos/outfits they will choose.
How gorgeous is Wee Burn Beach Club in Rowayton?! I was invited to lunch by Jen, the owner of Sail to Sable and it was the best afternoon by the beach.
Okay, now what’s on my radar for the week:
Okay, a bit of a confession here first. I’ve been watching a lot of Youtube videos lately. I read an article at the end of last year about “family vlogs” and found the whole thing fascinating. There are families out there that make daily videos, and they have HUGE (I’m talking MASSIVE) followings. Can’t lie, I’ve gotten hooked on a few. When we skied in Park City in March, we found out (via Instagram, of course) that the biggest Youtube family was there… The Shaytards. (Shay, the dad, sold his company Makers Studios to Disney for $500 million dollars.) After seeing them on the mountain, I now follow their channel.
They just collaborated on the cutest Sound of Music medley video with Peter Hollens, and I’m obsessed. The behind the scenes is just as cute too.
TWO // Pink Drink
What’s everyone’s thoughts on this Starbucks “Pink Drink” that’s all over Instagram?! I can’t decide if it looks amazing or disgusting! Has anyone tried it yet?!
I loved this video of Kate Winslet talking about believing in yourself. It’s such a great message. Definitely worth watching, and saving for later if you’re ever having a bad day. (I sent it to no fewer than four of my friends immediately.)
I’ve read a few from the list but have my work cut out for me! I think this is a well-rounded list with something for everyone. Pin it and refer to it before your next vacation when you need a book. (Here’s my personal summer reading recommendations for the summer!)
Is anyone else super pumped for the Olympics? I’ve been watching a lot of the coverage and a ton of the highlight videos all over Facebook. I can’t stop. It’s so exciting to watch people who have dedicated their whole lives to their sport qualify for the OLYMPICS. Amazing. I thought this was such a great short video about the swimmers!

Do you have fun plans for the long weekend?

I feel that same exact way about the new Starbucks drink! My sister had it the other day and said it was amazing, but I am still too nervous to not order an iced chai and try this new drink!

The Starbucks Pink Drink is amazing! I get it every time I'm there now! 🙂 It's also extremely low in calories, which is always helpful! Have a great long weekend and a Happy 4th!

The shoot sounds like it was so fun! // I haven't been to Starbucks in awhile, but it seems like people like the pink drink, and it does look quite pretty. I think there's a debate between whether the pink drink or purple drink is better! (The purple one looks pretty too) // Thanks for sharing the summer reads! 😀 // Haha I'm always the one the coach is telling off for being the last one in the pool 😛 -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

I tried the pink drink and loved it! But it's very sweet so a few sips went a long way for me.

I love the Shaytards! And when you went to Park City I freaked out because I knew they Shaytards were there also and I was like, "OMG my two favorite peoples all on one mountain at the same time"!

On My Radar

We’re officially in Ireland! (Hopefully… I’m pre-writing this so this is assuming we’ve had no hiccups in our trip. You can follow along on Snapchat: collegeprepster and Instagram.)
Before I flip into what’s been on my radar, I wanted to share this quick “recipe” because I’ve received a few requests for it. Honestly, it’s not a recipe.
I made these chocolate dipped pretzels for the Memorial Day barbecue we attended. They were a HIT! And they’re so easy that it’s almost embarrassing. All you do is melt Wilton Candy Melts (you can buy the packages at Michael’s) in the microwave; if the texture isn’t smooth enough you can add a little shortening. I melted the white in a tall glass to dip the pretzel rods and then used a spoon to cover a good bit of the pretzel leaving just a handle. Place the wet chocolate covered pretzels on wax paper on a baking sheet (with a lip) and pop into the refrigerator to harden. Once the chocolate is firm, start melting the colored chocolates in a little bowl. Spoon into a Ziplock, snip the end, and drizzle back and forth. Repeat with the second color and, while both are wet, sprinkle on some sprinkles! Pop back into the refrigerator to harden. When ready, carefully peel pretzels off the wax paper. (You may have to use a knife to carefully “trim” excess chocolate.) And then you’re done!
Now here’s what’s on my radar:
I made these last week and they are THE best. Absolutely the most delicious recipe I’ve ever found on Pinterest. The boats are also ridiculously easy to make. Garrett wasn’t too sure about it (to be honest, neither was I), but once we dug in, we both loved it. I ended up making too much shredded chicken and it stored perfectly in the fridge… great heated up for lunch the next day!
Okay, these modern love columns are typically hit or miss for me. I thought this particular piece was really sweet though. I think it’s a great reminder that not all relationships are the same and they might not read like a romantic comedy. Sometimes it just works!
This is, without a doubt, the cutest makeup case ever. If you’re still looking for a last minute graduation gift, this would be perfect. I wish I had ordered it in time for my trip!

FOUR // Why Do Publix Subs Taste So Good

To be honest, I thought this was kind of a dumb article… but still loved it. Whatevs. I miss Publix subs! They really are the best. No comparison.

FIVE // Tiny Hamster’s Best Day Ever at Disney World

How cute is this hamster??? I’m dying to know who made all the miniature Disney things and how they did it. I loved that tiny little Dole Whip it ate. And the rollercoasters? Unreal.

Anything fun on your radar this week? Hope everyone has a great weekend!

On My Radar

Another week, another on my radar post. I am in actual disbelief that it is May. This year, and really life in general, seems to be flying by. Four years ago I was gearing up for my college graduation. So much has changed over the past four years, including myself. I love it, but it’s still kind of crazy to think of how different things can be in just four short (long?) years.

With things flying by, it’s always nice to take a little step back and visit my parents and sister in Florida. (I picked the best weekend too because it was 90 degrees and sunny in Florida and cold and rainy up here in Connecticut!) We were planning on going to the beach for the weekend. Since I got in on Thursday evening, my mom and I had Friday to play!

It was always the plan to meet up with our family friends to meet the newest babies (the sweetest cousins!), but we walked into lunch and, much to our surprise, there they were sitting right by the door! I pretty much melted with the sweet babies and couldn’t put them down. I love the pasta at Pane Rustica and look forward to it whenever I visit, but I really had no interest in it that day.

(How cute is this popsicle shirtdress? I can’t recommend it enough!)

ONE // JetBlue + Babies

Speaking of babies, I loved this JetBlue campaign about being nicer about babies on planes. I don’t really mind if a baby is on a plane. (That’s what noise canceling headphones are for, right?) My thoughts are typically more of a prayer for the mom because I can’t imagine how stressful it could be.

TWO // Surprise for a Retiring Teacher

Try.Not.To.Cry. Seriously try. I was sobbing about two seconds into it! Teachers are ridiculously important. Sometimes I forget just how influential certain teachers have been in my life. Teachers who pushed. Who inspired. Who knew I could do things I didn’t think I could. It’s obvious this particular teacher made a big impact on her students. (I loved that she had a student from her first ever class!)

THREE // Professor Posts a CV of His Failures

With final season here, I think this is a great reminder. A Princeton professor posted a CV of his failures online to “show people that that their ‘invisible’ failures and setbacks are as important as their successes.” I remind every stressed out student that life goes on. I thought life would be over when I was failing my accounting class– but it really was just starting. (I decided to start blogging as a distraction and had no idea what it would eventually become.)

FOUR // What Does a Migraine Feel Like?

My mom, sister, and I all suffer from migraines. Each of ours are a little different, but one thing is the same: they suck. If I don’t catch one in time with medication, I have to clear my schedule and dedicate my day to getting through it. (A warm glass of water, a bottle of Diet Coke, two Excedrin migraine pills, and a long nap in a dark room is the only combo that works for me.) This Excedrin video is crazy– they created a VR simulation for loved ones to experience their migraines. They are way, way more than just a headache!

FIVE // Two College Students Meet Through Snapchat

Best use of Snapchat ever? Yes. I love that the whole school was tuning in and rooting for the two. Sounds like it could be the nest version of The Bachelor, haha. I also feel like Lifetime has probably already put their bid in for the rights. Too good!

Anything great on your radar this weekend?

Thanks for your very impressive post .Keep doing awesome would like to see more blog entry on the site. I have not been this thrilled by a blog entry for a long while! You have it, whatever that implies in blogging. Call taxi kochi works a task force of typical steady and explained transports offering a niggardly yet dependable option for transport. The autos are kept up to the same standard as common tutors. With seating restrains these vehicles deal a viable option in the vehicle of pervasive social occasions.

Wow thank you Carly for posting about the migraines! As a chronic migraine sufferer who has 2 types of migraines and dizziness disorders it was really powerful to just watch this by myself. I will definitely be showing my mom because she is just like the mom in this video and I think seeing and actually somewhat going through a migraine will help others understand that saying "oh you will be fine, just take a nap, or take this…" does not help. So I really truly appreciate you sharing this video!! This is amazing and I want to show this to my neurologist because it's powerful migraines do destroy relationships and I think this video has potential to really help so thank you Carly:)

On My Radar

This was an extra fun week… my friend Julia came for a few days. It was a super last minute trip, but we both were pretty desperate for some friend time. A we’ve been having the best time. I had been invited to do a macaron class with Ladurée and it was extra special that her trip overlapped with the class. I’ll be sharing more on that soon!
On my radar this week…
Julia, her husband Thomas, Garrett, and I went to Alaska last May. (How has it already been a year?!) It was honestly the best trip I’ve ever gone on. So different than the typical vacation. Thomas and Julia are launching a new website dedicated to travel itineraries and guess which trip made the cut for the first itinerary!? Alaska! (Can you spot the hilarious photo of me?)
TWO // Kids Perform Hamilton
Pretty much the closest I’m going to get to seeing Hamilton is watching Youtube videos. Anyone else dying to get their hands on a ticket? I feel like I won’t be able to see it live in NYC until 2025. Until then, this is an incredible performance of “The Schuyler Sisters” by three young kids. They kill it!
I love Saoirse Ronan. Like, absolutely love her. I recently went to see Brooklyn and was just captivated by her performance. She’s beautiful and nothing short of perfection on screen. Plus, her accent is ah-mazing. I loved this video interview of her with Vanity Fair. (PS Saoirse has climbed to the top of my short list of my favorite names for girls.)
When I was in middle and high school, I used to go to a lot of different conferences. Journalism, SADD, Youth in Government, you name it. The number of people I met throughout the years is insane. And we’re all kind of still Facebook friends, even though we met as young teens. One guy I met during a conference was Michael George. He is a ridiculously talented photographer and he recently shared the coolest photo series. Two weeks traveling across the country via train with a couple dozen artists. I’ve never wanted to road trip across the country more now!
Remember iCarly? (Side note: I get tagged in no fewer than ten iCarly-related Instagrams a day… cracks me up.) Remember Carly’s trusty, nerdy guy friend Freddie? Nathan Kress, the actor who played Freddie, recently got married. The wedding video is truly one of the best I’ve ever seen. Doesn’t matter that I don’t know this person in real life, I was sobbing through it.

Any thing fun planned for this weekend?!

My life became devastated when my husband sent me packing, after 8 years that we have been together. I was lost and helpless after trying so many ways to make my husband take me back. One day at work, i was absent minded not knowing that my boss was calling me, so he sat and asked me what its was all about i told him and he smiled and said that it was not a problem. I never understand what he meant by it wasn't a problem getting my husband back, he said he used a spell to get his wife back when she left him for another man and now they are together till date and at first i was shocked hearing such thing from my boss. He gave me an email address of the great spell caster who helped him get his wife back, i never believed this would work but i had no choice that to get in contact with the spell caster which i did, and he requested for my information and that of my husband to enable him cast the spell and i sent him the details, but after two days, my mom called me that my husband came pleading that he wants me back, i never believed it because it was just like a dream and i had to rush down to my mothers place and to my greatest surprise, my husband was kneeling before me pleading for forgiveness that he wants me and the kid back home, then i gave Happy a call regarding sudden change of my husband and he made it clear to me that my husband will love me till the end of the world, that he will never leave my sight. Now me and my husband is back together again and has started doing pleasant things he hasn't done before, he makes me happy and do what he is suppose to do as a man without nagging. On My Radar

This was, uh, not a good week. At all. Monday morning was great and productive and it dissolved into a $20,000 issue. Literally though. Ugh. It was a slow recovery after that. I’m hoping that’s the last bit of bad news I get for a while!
That afternoon, I was so sick to my stomach and the only thing that helped was spending an hour or so on the beach with Teddy. It was surprisingly warm and felt absolutely wonderful to get a little sun, breathe in the salty air, and just clear my head. The tedster had zero complaints.
On the bright side… Garrett and I are heading out to Utah for a weekend of skiing with his family, so we’re really looking forward to that. And then, after a red-eye back, we have a really exciting announcement on Wednesday. You’ll probably find out first on Snapchat, so if you’re not following (collegeprepster)…. you should. 😉
I don’t know how or why, but I have way more than the usual links this week.
3. I don’t know why this is the first time I saw The Other Kennedys video series on Youtube, but it’s really, really entertaining. Gar and I couldn’t stop laughing!
4. This may just be the cutest dress of the season with a nautical rope print and perfectly placed bow.
5. How cool is this freestanding Reebok ad? If you run fast enough past it, it unlocks a free pair of shoes. Great activation and execution!
7. Have you been using Snapchat’s new face swap filter? It’s so disturbing and funny. I was crying at this round up of the funniest face swaps… and then I watched this video. She wins.
8. DREAM JOB ALERT. Netflix is hiring people to Instagram for their account. And they’re asking people to apply with Instagram! So cool.
10. I was so inspired by this video of Mandy Harvey. Although she lost her hearing as a teenager, she still has an beautiful gift for song and songwriting. Just amazing.

Any fun weekend plans?

On My Radar

Does anyone else feel like we blinked and the week just flew by??? How is it Friday? I swear, the best weeks happen after quick weekend trips.
Talbots sent me these gorgeous mini macarons for Valentine’s Day, along with this heart and bike sweater! So sweet.
Here’s what’s been on my radar this week:
True story, my sister and I used to watch The Parent Trap (on VHS, of course) every single Saturday morning together. It got the point where we knew the lines so well we could do the whole thing together each playing the role of a twin. Obsessed would be an understatement. I found the movie on the Apple TV last week and re-watched it one night. I still love it. But I may love it even more now if that’s possible! This quiz on Buzzfeed was fun… but also too easy. Still worth taking if you’re a big fan!
What do you get when you blend Adele and Mozart? PURE GENIUS. Pure and simple genius. I could listen to this all day. In fact, I kind of have this week! PS You can find ThePianoGuys on Spotify!

THREE // Chi Chi London Dress

If you’re looking for a super cute, kind of unique dress for prom or some kind of fancier event… I’m kind of in love with this one. And I’d love it if someone could get it so I could live vicariously through you. It also comes in a gorgeous cream… which would be great for an engagement party or shower.

FOUR // Perfect Score on the AP Calculus Exam

This was such a heartwarming story. Cedrick Argueta got a perfect score on the AP Calculus exam! He was only 1 of 12 in the world to do so. He found out he got a 5 this summer and recently received word that he got every single question correct. I have to say, not only does Cedrick seem like a smart and humble young man… he has an incredible support system with his parents and his teacher. Love hearing these stories!

FIVE // Polar Bear Cub Growth

How adorable is this little polar bear cub?? Just a little something cute to wrap up the post!

Anything fun on your radar this week?

My sister and I used to watch the original parent trap ALLLL the time! We would always pick that to rent at the video store! (sidenote: so funny our kids will never experience a video store)…We loved that movie! It took me a while to get on board with the remake, but I love Natasha Richardson. Now I love both versions but the original will always be my favorite 🙂 Have a great weekend!

On My Radar

Hope everyone had a wonderful week! And a great time ringing in the new year. It’s been a weird in between week for me. Between Christmas and New Year’s, I feel like I’ve completely lost track of time. The next week will be just as crazy though. Garrett and I are driving up to Mont Tremblant in Canada for a couple of days of skiing. I can’t wait!!!
ONE // New Coat
I sadly had to retire one of my favorite pea coats (that I’ve had since 2006!) because I completely tore the lining of the sleeve. (It was not pretty.) I started looking for a replacement and it seemed like every coat was already sold out… I went for this toggle coat and it’s perfect. You can still get it in a bunch of colors and sizes. It fits a little slim in the shoulders, so I’d size up if you think that would be a problem. Oh! It’s also an extra 40% off with “shopnow” at checkout.
Warning, this post brought me to tears. Some of the posts are absolutely adorable. Some are sweet. And some are downright heartbreaking.
I’m not super into “live tweeting” however, this might be the exception to the rule. One of my friends posted this on Facebook and I was absolutely cackling with laughter as I was going through the tweets. The reporter goes above and beyond the call of duty and by the end (when Southwest gets involved), I couldn’t believe it!
I can finally post this! A friend of mine posted this New York City artist on her blog and I really fell in love with his artwork. While poking around the website, I saw that he had prints of the Waverly Inn… Garrett and I went on our first “real” date there. I met Kazuya Morimoto in the city one day to purchase the print. It was definitely the perfect Christmas gift for G and one that I actually kept a secret… so it was a great surprise!
When I posted this Instagram a few people commented suggesting I create a group on Goodreads. Goodreads is my favorite way to track what I’m reading. I loved the idea so I created a quick group there…. I hope people have fun with it and want to join. I need to figure out how the whole thing works a little more so I’ll have to do a little research on that front, but I got it off the ground. You can join in here!

Anything fun on your radar this week?

Oh gosh, I'm a sucker for coats. A year and a half ago I made myself promise that I wouldn't buy anymore because I already have the essentials in different weights… For now, I'm stuck with admiring coats from afar 😛 Love the idea of a GoodReads book club! This past year I've recently been using GoodReads for the 2015 GoodReads Reading Challenge, and also to more actively to keep track of what I'm reading, what I want to read, and what I've read. I haven't yet delved into sharing quotes or reviews (although I do do that on my blog ;)) or joining book clubs, but there's a first time for everything, and I love the idea! On My Radar

This week was a complete blur for me. I spent the first bit still in Tampa and then made my way back to Connecticut where I hit the ground running. Even though I wasn’t thrilled to be back in chilly weather, I was reminded why December is such a fun month. Seeing lights and decorations everywhere makes me so happy… and then add in Peppermint Mochas and we’ve got ourselves a party.
(How cute are these Christmas tree loafers?! Talbots sent them to me and I intend on getting as much wear out of them as I can this month!)
A few highlights from the week:
– Not a highlight, but I went in for a regular doctor’s visit/check up on Tuesday morning and walked out with a diagnosis of carpal tunnel. I’ve been having terrible back pain and neck pain for weeks and it all makes sense. I thought the stiffness in my neck was related to stress. I’m now working on my posture while I work and figuring out the proper height for my laptop and keyboard to alleviate some of the pain.
– Teddy was invited to “act” in a holiday video with SheKnows this week. I will definitely be posting a video when it goes up. I was hesitant to agree because Teddy is not a “professional” dog at all, but I think it went really well. Teddy seemed to have a blast (what could be better than endless treats and a room with lots of friendly hands for scratches?) and slept for the rest of the day from blissful exhaustion.
– I got to preview the Kate Spade summer collection. I shared a few behind the scenes moments on Snapchat (collegeprepster if you want to follow!) and a couple of my favorites on Twitter. I’m loving December… but I think it’s safe to say my summer countdown has started, if only for those super cute palm tree flats.
– After wanting to visit for months, I finally had the chance to eat at Ralph Lauren’s restaurant The Polo Bar with two of my friends. Omg. It’s everything you can imagine and more. You have to make your reservations very much in advance but it’s worth the wait. The food is really good and the atmosphere is even better. We were there for over three hours without even realizing how late it had gotten; I didn’t get back to Connecticut until 1 am!
Now here’s what has been on my radar for the week:

ONE // Heartwarming Illustrations About Love

I don’t know if the holidays are making me extra sappy or something but I think these are the sweetest illustrations I’ve ever seen. The illustrations are the work of Phillipa Rice for her book Soppy. (Talk about a cute stocking stuffer…) Just the cutest. I smiled at every single one!

TWO // Uptown Funk Old Movie Mashup

Warning, this video will make you want to start an impromptu dance party or embark on a movie marathon. Very possibly both.

THREE // JK Rowling and Lauren Laverne

I loved this interview with JK Rowling. I’m re-reading Harry Potter and I literally can’t stop thinking about how brilliant she is. How did she come up with the story and every layer perfectly intertwined? It’s incredible. This interview is such a great way to learn more about her as a person, not just an author. It’s lengthy and covers a whole bunch of topics. A must read!

FOUR // One Desk, 31 Years

This is a Georgetown-related article but can be appreciated universally. It’s about students who recently discovered a hidden note under a desk… and connected with the original poster!

FIVE // Think you hate Barbie?

I’ve been disappointed to see some “hate,” if you will, against Barbies in recent press. Barbies make up some of my best childhood memories. (I even dressed up like “Winter Barbie” for Halloween one year.) I played with my sister, with my friends, by myself. This commercial for Barbie captures exactly the sentiment I have for the dolls! They open up a world of possibility for girls!

Oh man! Carpel tunnel is the WORST. It started getting bad in my mid-to-late twenties so I started seeing a chiropractor (I'm 30 now). At first it freaked me out because I don't like bones cracking (I still don't!), but they do a mix of active release therapy (kind of like a massage but they move you around more), acupuncture and they recommend physio exercises to do. That coupled with massages and standing up to work/type more and the pain is minor now.It pains me that I'm paying for these people to literally help me sit at a desk for 8 hours a day 🙁

I really love the Barbie commercial, it sends such a good message to girls! Also, it puts aside some of the"hate" that Barbie has been getting the last few years. Love all of these links! Thanks for sharing

On My Radar

The absolute highlight of my week was attending Kate Spade’s annual holiday party. It’s always my favorite event of the year. It’s unbelievably over the top and just so much fun. This year there was a was an entire room filled with the collections of gifts with the cutest descriptions; we each were allowed to pick one collection to gift to a friend. I picked out the “Head in the Clouds” box for my sister! (Which I ended up getting myself at the end of the night!)

Here’s what’s been on my radar this week:

JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. Reactivate it to view this content.
Nordstrom has a ton of great finds on sale right now, including Tory Burch riding boots which are 40% off available in almost every size! I also love this Kate Spade handbag and the classic check cashmere Burberry scarf!

TWO // The Baby-Sitter’s Club Cast Reunion

I absolutely loved reading The Baby-Sitters Club books growing up and watching the videos… and the Little Sister series with Karen, duh. Did anyone else read/watch the series?! I watched the movie at one of my first sleepover parties, haha! I couldn’t believe the cast of the movie had a reunion… the photos on Instagram are great!

THREE // French vs. American Girl Style

How fun is this video with Camille Rowe portraying the differences between French and American girls. I cracked up at the part where she’s giving directions because that’s so what I do!!

FOUR // Video Ad About Moms

I highly recommend watching this video. It’s an ad and it’s technically about mommy wars (brilliant marketing in my opinion!), but the message is important for everyone. You never know what someone else has gone through or is going through so you shouldn’t pass judgement.

FIVE // Ladurée’s Chic Co-President

This is an amazing profile on Elizabeth Holder, one of the co-presidents of Ladurée. As a huge fan of the macarons, I loved hearing more about the brand and the story behind its growing popularity. I need to make a stop into the store next time I’m in the city. (I love sitting down for a cappuccino!)

That party looks to die for! Just seeing the pictures puts me in the ultimate holiday spirit.

What a great moms video…I work with children with special needs, and it's hard for me to see up close what these moms deal with every day. I often hear comments such as, "Is this choice what all other moms are doing?" "I feel like I'm not ever doing enough for them." It breaks my heart. I love that hashtag and what this video stands for!

On My Radar

So….. Garrett and I were supposed be to going to Bermuda tomorrow for a weekend trip with my best friend and her boyfriend. We knew it was a risk booking a trip during Hurricane season, but went for it anyway. Womp, womp. There’s a hurricane! If it doesn’t hit Bermuda, it’s going to go up the east coast of the United States, basically right around the time we’d be flying back home. We decided to postpone.
This is actually a lesson about being careful of what I wish for. October, a month ago, was jam-packed with travel. So much so that I felt totally overwhelmed and way crazy nervous about how in the world I was supposed to get work done. Then life started happening and a lot (all? how is that even possible?) probably aren’t happening. I’d be lying if I wasn’t a tiny bit relieved, but I’m also super disappointed! Sheesh!
I’m going to look on the bright side here. Garrett and I are going to treat the weekend like a little staycation while also getting some things done around the apartment. I really want to go see The Intern, has anyone seen it yet?!
This week was pretty exciting… I met Cindy Crawford and went on a little day trip with Barbour.
Welcomed October by breaking out my Bean Boots and new plaid shirt. Here’s what has been on my radar this week…
ONE // Tory Burch Sale
Yesterday I shared a few announcements about sales and such, but I forgot to include the Tory Burch sale going on right now. Get 20% off when you spend $300, 25% off when you spend $500, and 30% off when you spend $750. I’d be all over the riding boots for fall!
TWO // Puppy Selfies
I cracked up when I saw this. Pretty hilarious and brilliant! I kind of sort of definitely want to back the Kickstarter so I can get one for Teddy. We may have to rig the device to have a frisbee instead of a tennis ball though.
I’m so glad there’s no record of me talking about what dating is like in 7th grade. I did think this video was sweet. I remember thinking relationships in middle school were the biggest of deals. Especially the ones that lasted longer than a week 😉
My hair has been causing me problems lately. It’s been fairly humid and when there’s even a drop of moisture in the air, I lose all control over my hair. I think I’m just generally uninspired. I saw this on Pinterest and I want to give a few of the options a try!
I love ending these posts with an uplifting video… This video had me in tears! This man’s reaction to his wife’s pregnancy is too, too good and sweet!

So sorry you had to cancel your travel plans, but what a nice idea to treat the weekend like a staycation and enjoy it as much as possible. I haven't seen The Intern yet, but I'd definitely like to! Love the idea of hairstyles in under 5 minutes!! Perfect for busy weekdays.

Looks like you've had a super busy week!
I was going to see the Intern, but the showing I went to ran out of seats! I watched Maze Runner 2 instead.

I went to Bermuda last summer and absolutely loved it! My mom was born there so all of us kids wanted to take her back (because moms are awesome and never seem to put their wants first!). My favorite part was this little "unmarked" hiking sort of deal that we did, where we found these little cave-like lagoons that we could swim in. Over all it was awesome and the people there are SO nice!

We’re still down in Bonaire, but we’re wrapping up up the scuba part of the trip before we make our way back up to Connecticut. (It’s including a road trip if all goes as planned… wish us luck.) I’m definitely going to be sharing more about the actual scuba element, but since there’s a lot to say– and tons of photos an videos– I’m going to wait a bit. I will say though… I got through all the underwater skills and I’m officially certified. That was the main goal of this particular trip so I’m relieved to have passed. (There was one very rough day involved, yikes.)
^^ That’s me!
On my radar for the week…
I love Tuckernuck. Hands down one of my favorite shopping destinations! The curated selection of products is the best. They’re slowly releasing some fall favorites and I have to say, the transition is a welcome change! They really do have great pieces to get you through September into October without going full-fledged-fall!
If you’re not following Lauren on Instagram yet, you must… ASAP. Her photos are unbelievably dreamy. And with so much character and charm in each one, she has quickly become my favorite Instagrammers. I started following her blog recently and she posted one of the most comprehensive Nantucket guides I’ve seen!
THREE // Drybar Shampoo
This whole trip I’ve been washing my hair with Drybar shampoo. Whenever I’m going on a trip, I always bring a couple of samples that I’ve accumulated over the years and this time I just happened to grab a sample of Drybar’s shampoo. WHOA. I am obsessed. It makes me feel like I just got my hair done there because the scent is so spot on. I will be buying the full-sized immediately.
I’m normally not a fan of Kickstarters. However, this one caught my attention and, well, I think it’s awesome. Apparently so does most people as it raised over nine million dollars! How freaking cool is that jacket?!
I always like ending these posts with something cute, preferably pup-related. I thought this was the funniest little video on the internet this week. I smiled the whole time I watched it! The poor little guy– all he wanted was some fresh air.

On My Radar

I started the week off with multiple trips downtown. It’s a bit of a trek from the Upper East Side so unless I have a meeting, I feel like I don’t get down there. But there’s something quite breathtaking about stepping out of a stuffy and humid subway and having this view when you come above ground.
I’ve been trying to soak up these last few days in NYC. Garrett and I are heading to Indiana for a wedding this weekend. I’ve never been before and I’m excited to get the grand tour from G, as he went to college there. But we come back next week and then move on Saturday! It’s going to be a whirlwind… and I’m already bracing myself!

Here’s what has been on my radar:

ONE // Mindy Kaling on Confidence

I love Mindy. I love that she not only writes from the heart but writes from her experience. I think she’s one of those rare celebrities who are open and willing to help… to share her experiences not from a “here’s what I’ve been through” perspective, but from a “let me share what I learned so you can start ahead.” This article on confidence was just what I needed to read this week!

TWO // Humpback Whale Sighting in Alaska

A humpback whale, believed to be 50 years old now, was just spotted again in Alaska. Seeing the humpback whales feed during our cruise in May was hands down one of the highlights of the trip.

THREE // Maddie and Mackenzie Dance Like Fall’s Trends

If you don’t already know, I’m a huge Dance Moms fan. Huge. I’ve been watching the show religiously since it came out. I still watch it every week. It’s my guilty pleasure. I think it’s been especially incredible to see Maddie blossom into this full-fledged dance icon! This dance the Ziegler sisters did for Glamour is great; I could watch on repeat.

FOUR // “Frugal Weirdos” Plan to Retire by 33

This is not personally how I’d like to live, but I was fascinated by this couple’s saving strategy. I am absolutely a “saver” by nature, although I do believe you should spend/save in moderation. I’m not ready to have Garrett cut my hair or anything, but I liked reading about how passionate they are about their savings strategy so they can live life exactly the way they want.

FIVE // Teleprompter Practice

On Monday, I had my first experience with a teleprompter. I’ve never had to use one before and it ended up being a major challenge. Unfortunately, I was just having to figure it out on the fly. (…and I feel like I absolutely bombed it….) But Maxie, who is a broadcaster PRO, shared this website with me where you can practice reading from a teleprompter right from your computer. In case anyone out there thinks they might be reading from a teleprompter anytime soon, I highly recommend the practice!

Is it just me or do weeks with holidays at the end move very slowly?! I’ve been watching the clock, just so excited to be traveling home to Florida. Can’t wait for swimming and relaxing! I have a semi-crazy day tomorrow and then we’re off first thing in the morning. Lots of packing and prepping to do in the meantime– kind of think I just want to fill my suitcase with bathing suits and call it a day.
Here’s how to write with sparklers!

On my radar:

ONE // World Record Zoom

I honestly don’t even know if I can believe this video; it seems too crazy!!! Nikon Coolpix P900 has the best zoom. It’s funny because my first digital camera, back in 2002 I think, was a 3 megapixel Coolpix. My, my how times have changed!

TWO // Birthday Card Between Brothers

I was cracking up when I read this. Brothers have been exchanging the same birthday card for 40 years! I think it is so fun how it starts off as joke and then turns into a real tradition!

THREE // Ralph Lauren Bathing Suit

Has anyone else been struggling in the bathing suit department? Luckily I have some great ones from year past, but I wanted at least one new suit for the summer! I finally found this adorable bikini from Ralph Lauren! It is fun and bright and fits really well. Not too skimpy and not too matronly!

FOUR // Teen Paid for College With Etsy

I love stories like this one! LeiLei Secor paid for college by setting up an Etsy shop. This article is great and shares some of the ways LeiLei found success. Her shop is really cute. The love ring and the wave (!!!) ring are my favorites.

FIVE // Christian Louboutin Nude Collection

How great is this news?! Christian Louboutin’s Nude Collection is expanding to include all shades of nude!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Oy. This week. That’s really all I have to say about how this week went. Let’s just say, there was a lot of pizza, s’mores, and ice cream consumed.
Let’s just skip right down to the fun stuff… What’s been on my radar:
This. This. This. THIS. I’m first to admit that I overuse the word perfect, but in this case, it’s 100% appropriately used. That house is absolutely the most perfect summer beach house. A girl can dream right? Filing it away for future inspiration and current motivation…
Julia and I both share a celebrity crush on Eddie Redmayne. He is just darling. Then you add in Harry Potter? Talk about a hit. I can’t wait!!
This is such an amazing cover of “Chandelier.” I couldn’t stop listening to it. Simply beautiful and can you believe these are college students at Elon? So talented.
FOUR // Old NYC
I spent more time than I care to admit perusing this website. You can click on different street corners to see what it used to look like. The old photos are incredible!
I’ve never related to a Buzzfeed article as much as I did with this one. The struggle to find a great fitting bra is real. And it’s kind of a relief to know that it’s a universal problem though!

Anything good on your radar?

Eddie Redmayne… Stealing my heart since Les Mis. I literally can't with this guy. Going full on white girl. I can't wait for the new Harry Potter spin-off now.

And let me just say: bra fittings are such a pain. My bust measurement is literally 33". In between all the sizes. Hooray.

Guys, this photo is straight from my iPhone… no editing! If this isn’t a good sign for “May Flowers” then I don’t know what is. I can honestly say that my mood is drastically better just from seeing green on the trees and colorful flowers popping up everywhere. The city is BRIGHT again, and not just because the sun is staying out later and later. (Remember when it was setting at 4pm in December? Let’s not go back to that again, k?)
Oh, happy day! I did a lot of catching up this week after being in Dallas. There were a couple of 2am nights, an almost-laptop crash (it’s hanging on by a thread at this point), a banking nightmare (switched to Chase!), and a few yoga classes to round it all out. Let’s just say, I’m thankful for friends who visit the Upper East Side, the beautiful flowers in the city, and today being FRIDAY.
On my radar this week…

Holy moly, the Kate Spade sale right now is good. And to make it even better, the sale is on sale! Take an additional 25% off with “CHEERS” at checkout. Of note… my favorite scallop coat and my favorite scallop dress are both on sale! This little black bag is calling my name…
I love Zooey Deschanel. But, wow. I think I’m really in LOVE with her house. And it’s for sale. If only I had a spare two million dollars.
THREE // How Old?
This was floating around Facebook and I totally got suckered into clicking on it. The website, powered by Microsoft, takes a photo of you and can “detect” your age. I thought it was just a fun and silly thing to do. It predicted I was 27! Not bad considering I’m turning 26 in exactly four months. Is it accurate for you?
I read this essay on the NY Times website and I have to admit, it hit too close to home! I really regret some of the “relationships” I was in throughout college. Such a waste of my time and energy when I look back. Seriously though. I did feel kind of empowered not being encumbered by a defined relationship, but at the end of the day it was actually pretty draining. Looking back, I wish I had waited for someone who wanted a real relationship. Anyway… food for thought if you’re in that boat 😉
The fascinating back story to the iconic photo. The interview shares more details about the girl, the photographer, the story of what happened. I knew the gist of the photograph, but it’s even more intriguing to hear it from the photographer’s point of view. Also, the slideshow with more of his photos at the bottom was great.

Hi Carly, just wondering if you ordered your normal size in the scallop coat? I have read a review that says the coat is very large. Just wondering if you ordered your normal coat size. I know it is intended to have a bit of a slouchy fit, but I wanted your input on sizing. Thanks so much!

I loved the "no labels, no drama" piece. It is so hard to define relationships now because you never really know what the other person is looking for or what is expected. How can you move on from seeing each other to being exclusive if you never actually talk about what sort of relationship you'e interested in having? It's hard to be brave and make the first move, but sometimes necessary! Thanks for sharing

Gawking at Zoey's house. In love with her kitchen and bathroom!

I put a picture of me and my fiancé on the How Old site – he was "32" and I was "23." Giggling because I actually am 23 and he's 25 🙂

1. Thanks for sharing the Kate Spade sale! I had been wanted to the cream ostrich bow purse for so long and finally was able to snag it for 27% of the original cost 🙂
2. Zoey's house is incredible! It has so much charm and open space without being pretentious. It definitely doesn't surprise me that this is her home.
3. The how-old.net definitely did not work for me, haha. It put me over 30 with every picture I posted, and I am only 24. The funny part is that I always get carded everywhere I go (and Texas is much more lax than DC on checking IDs) and most people are shocked that I am in my 20s, not a teen. Then my boyfriend was always tagged as much younger than me, although he is 26. He does have a baby face, though! Did it accurately predict Garrett's age?

The article about the Vietnam photograph was very interesting. Kim, the woman in the picture, spoke at my school last year and it was cool to compare the two stories. Thanks for sharing!

What a great week. My motto right now? No news is good news. I’ve been doing a lot of head-down working, but managed to fit in time for relaxing and working out. Sitting at a computer all day wears on me and my yoga classes have been a great thing to look forward to. The best part? I feel like I’m actually making some great progress with my yoga practice. Oh, and Garrett and I started our “warm weather” workout routine, which is basically running an hour a day which basically means that my legs are the sorest they’ve ever been.
Starting the week off with a Starbucks run. Guess which one is mine and which one is G’s! Hehe! (Also, I’ve been wearing these sneaks practically nonstop.)
I’m waiting patiently for the leaves to sprout on the trees here. In the meantime, I’m obsessed with the new iPhone case that Minnie & Emma sent me and my scalloped card case for my green fix.
SPRING!!! It’s HERE! I have the outfit to prove it. My trench is old from Banana Republic, but this J. Crew one is similar. I also wore my new shirt from Vineyard Vines (c/o) and white jeans.
New dresses arrived this week and I am seriously ready for summer jaunts. White eyelet dress (worn here), striped dress, rope dress (dying at how cute it is), and a fit and flare dress.
Anyway, here’s what is on my radar for the week:
How fun is this? You can predict how popular a name was and what the trend will be in the future. Carly peaked in 1995 and will continue to decline until 2036! Anyone else pick out baby names? My favorite girl name (note: no babies in the near future for me) is trending right now and it’s definitely making me reconsider!

TWO // 4 Months x 4 Cities

Recent graduate Amanda Zimmerman is taking an unconventional route post-college. But I have to say, it seems to make a whole lot of sense to me! She’s spending a month in four different cities and test-driving her passions meanwhile. I wish I had done something similar. Would you be bold/brave enough to do it? She’s blogging her experiences here.

THREE // USC Hand-delivers Acceptance Letters

A friend sent this video to me and a long-time College Prepster reader is in it! Watch Sammy get her acceptance around 2:40. She handled it so well; I would have been on the ground.

FOUR // Seb Lester’s Caligraphy

How incredible is this Instagram account? The precision! The logos! How is it even possible?

FIVE // FULL HOUSE RETURNS

I obviously saved the best for last. Full House may be doing a reunion show with Netflix. I mean. Happy Friday. (If this doesn’t happen I will be devastated. I love Full House!)

One word for the week? SNOW. I actually don’t mind the snowfall part so much. (It’s the brown slush that we have to trudge through the next day that I don’t like.) While the sidewalks are pretty gross, I have to admit that the city takes on a magical glow when covered in lots of fresh snow.
Because of, I guess… winter, my body has been feeling super tight and tense. My shoulders scrunch out bracing myself for the wind in my face. Yoga has been a saving grace!!! I can’t believe just how much I love it. (Remember how nervous I was to start?!) I’m not doing headstands or anything– yet– but I’m getting so much better. Every week I feel stronger and more flexible. This week felt like a major breakthrough. My classes rocked and I noticed a huge difference in my body.
Bam! Take that winter blues!
What’s on my radar:

ONE // Mary Cain is Growing Fast

I love reading about young women doing incredible things. Mary Cain is amazing! I read this article on the train and felt both totally inadequate and inspired to go for a run. (The icy sidewalks prevented that, but I at least thought about it, ha.) Definitely bookmark this article to read later if you don’t have time today… it’s really worth it.

TWO // Snapchat Resume

What’s the best way to get a job at Snapchat? This guy thinks a Snapchat story will land him the job. I was laughing the whole time. Really smart!!! I would hire him for the job.

THREE // Getting into good habits

Best. Article. There are so many good habits I wish I could adopt, but I always fall short. I burn out after a short amount of time. Who knew getting into a good habit isn’t that hard at all? It’s also interesting to see the ties between happiness and habits.

FOUR // Mexico!!!

So my sister and I were planning a girls’ trip… then it turned into a family trip. “The sooner, the better” was the general consensus. We wanted it to be warm… and we chose Mexico. We went to Mexico in 2012 and we’re all eager to go back. I did a lot of retail therapy this week in preparation: a striped rash guard, a new (one piece! ah!) swimsuit, the cutest hat, killer espadrilles… and a few more things, too.

FIVE // Bar Mitzvah Music Video

Need a good laugh? This video is amazing. I love this kid’s enthusiasm and commitment to the video… and his brother’s lack of enthusiasm is just as entertaining. The best Friday pick-me-up. I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve watched/listened.

I am so jealous of your upcoming trip to Mexico! This week I am home in Chicago on Spring Break so have luckily been missing all the New England snow. While it is still super cold in Chicago the rest and family time was definitely needed. This week I started watching Dexter on Netflix (after my brother told me it was a must watch) and have been hooked! It creeped me out at first but now I am addicted. If you haven't checked it out yet I would highly recommend it!

On My Radar

This week was an extra special week… I got to visit my friend Alison! We met through blogging and bonded over both being Georgetown girls. It’s funny to think that our time at school never overlapped, but we still found each other and a great friendship grew from it! We mostly catch up through text messages and epically long emails, so when we actually get to see each other in person it’s extra special.
This time was even MORE special because I finally got to meet her new baby James and see her beautiful new house. I was supposed to go last week, but my train was canceled from the blizzard. Waiting an extra week was torture!
Oh my goodness. James is the snuggliest eight-week-old I’ve ever met. I just wanted to cuddle with his fuzzy little head and never put him down! It was the best 24 hours I could ask for.

… now what’s on my radar:

ONE // Writing Your Way to Happiness

I’ve always kind of known that writing seriously helped me navigate myself out of the trenches (specifically, writing this blog), but this is the first time I’ve read something that 100% matched my feelings. I mean, in the article it talks about having freshman write for future students and see how it changed their own perceptions. YES!!!! It’s like I was part of the study without even knowing it!

TWO // New Favorite Instagram Account

How sweet are these puppies?! I love how they snuggle together… Makes me want to get another dog. .. or two.

THREE // Oscar Nominees Posing with their Younger Selves

Is this not the coolest thing you’ve ever seen? Some of the photoshopping is better than the others… still amazing though! Julia Roberts is my favorite of the bunch. I love how the photos make the actors look like they are best friends with their younger selves.

FOUR // Vying for a Seat at the School of Rock

If there is one thing you should know about me, it’s that I love musicals. LOVE them. One of my dreams is to be on broadway, even though it will absolutely never happen. I haven’t given up the dream. Watching this video made me supremely jealous of these kids. Also, School of Rock is one of my favorite movies (“you’re tacky and I hate you…”) so I can’t wait for the musical!

FIVE // Lennon and Maisy “Boom Clap”

Man, this is a great video! The girls are growing up so much. It’s been so long since the first time I blogged about them, and it’s pretty incredible to see how much they’ve grown up! Such talented sisters!!!

Aww baby James is just so adorable, love his little onesie! I have seen some of the photoshopping people on Tumblr have done of celebs and their younger selves and some of them are really amazing. I just found Lennon and Maisy's "Boom Clap" cover this morning and listened to it as I got ready for the day, what a coincidence! Great list, have a great weekend!

On My Radar

Wah! Does January 2 mean our slow and relaxing holiday season is coming to an end? I’ve been really enjoying these holidays. (Wait, just kidding, I’m going on a vacation next Wednesday… #neverendingholiday.)
I’m pretty impressed with myself and how much of a break I’ve taken from my computer. While I was in Florida, I barely touched my laptop. And even when I was on my laptop, I was obsessively hunting for cars, so it wasn’t even like I was working. I’ve been reading every day, watching (too much) television, and simply relaxing. I will say, I am rather ready to get back into a normal schedule… sort of.
Here’s what has been on my radar over the past couple weeks:
This story hit me so hard. Talk about all the feels. I actually cried pretty hard. The story has so many layers of thoughtfulness. From the actual buying of the sneakers to really caring about how he would feel when he received them. The world needs a LOT more of this, don’t you think.
TWO // Taylor Swift-mas
It’s official. I think Taylor Swift is the coolest celebrity… ever. If any other celebrity did this, it might seem like a PR stunt to promote an upcoming movie/album/fillintheblank, but Taylor seems so real about the whole thing. I mean, she wrapped the presents herself. I teared up watching this whole video.

THREE // Sorel Slimboot

When I did the photoshoot with Teen Vogue and Sorel, I was allowed to keep the shoes from the shoot. It was hands down the most comfortable photoshoot I’ve ever done and I loved all the boots. The Slimboot was my least favorite of the bunch just because they weren’t as “fun” as the other ones. But you know what? They’re the boots I have worn the most since. I AM OBSESSED. I swear, I wear them every single day. These are incredibly comfortable.

FOUR // More feels….

Because you’re not already crying by now… This one really hit me hard! First of all, you can just tell that that family loves each other. The way the dad is all snuggled up with him before the actual gift. Just too sweet.

FIVE // Jiff the Dog

Umm… Don’t tell Teddy, but I think this dog wins for cutest dog in the world! Sheesh! Must get out the treats and start kicking Teddy’s training up a notch. (Seriously though, is that dog even real? Or just a fluffy, adorable robot?!)

Anything good on your radar this week?

That dog is adorable!! Thanks for sharing those sweet videos- I hadn't seen any besides the Taylor Swift one, and it's always good to get your heart strings pulled. ❤️

Are the slimboots actually "slim"? I have really tiny calves and am always on the hunt for boots that don't flop around so much… it seems like everything accommodates a thicker leg!
Also, my parents have a dog named Jif as well (there used to also be a dog named Skippy, because apparently we have a thing for peanut butter) but ours is not nearly so photogenic!

Personally I'm a huge fan of neutrals! I ordered a pair of Sorel snow boots from an online website, but they were on back order and then for some reason my purchase couldn't go through :'( Maybe one day I'll own a pair of Sorels! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

Those boots look so amazingly comfortable! And ok, that Taylor Swift video only confirmed how fabulous she is. Love it!

On My Radar
ONE // Girl Meets World, Boy Meets World Reunion
I was really excited to watch Girl Meets World because I loved BMW so much. It is definitely a Disney show though and I’m well past the target demo. (Aka I actually watched an episode but stopped after five minutes… ha!) I do think that this clip from the reunion special is just the cutest. #BoyMeetsWorldForever

TWO // The Thank You Project

Warning: Don’t watch if you don’t have ten minutes for a good, long cry. (This is also a wonderful, wonderful reminder of how great a simple– or grand– “thank you” can be. No matter how much time has passed!)

THREE // Starbucks Lovers

Dying. Dying. I am definitely not known for knowing lyrics. In fact, I butcher them all the time. It doesn’t matter what the song is or how well I think I know it, I will mess it up without fail. Well, at the very least, I’m relieved to know I’m not the only one who thought Miss Taylor Swift was singing about “Starbucks Lovers.” (Seriously, in my mind I was picturing a cute couple sitting by a snowy window sipping on Peppermint Mochas.)

FOUR // Puppy wakes up

This. Is. So. Cute. I was smiling ear to ear the second his little ears perked up!!! Wah! I can’t take it.

FIVE // Mexican Immigrants Win Robot Competition

This is quite a long article, but it’s 100% worth a read. Who doesn’t love a good underdog story? This article was originally written ten years ago, but they’re republishing because there is a book and movie coming out about their story. I really like this story because it’s a great example of how solutions don’t necessarily have to be the snazziest or fanciest and it’s a testament to the importance of diversity when it comes to innovation.

xoxo

PS I couldn’t not include this video. This guy NAILED the “Chandelier” dance!!!! Seriously, nailed it.

I was also super excited about Girl Meets World, but I just can't sit through it! Definitely not the goal demographic for the show! But I hope those who are enjoy it as much as I enjoyed Boy Meets World!

On My Radar

This week was another great one!!! Maxie was in town and so we got together for our favorite early morning breakfast heart-to-hearts. She’s one amazing gal, let me tell you. Can’t even explain how lucky I am to have her in my life. (Also, how amazing does she look in her new DVF dress? I convinced her that she needed to invest in one and the Universe delivered. Every girl needs a wrap dress!!!)
Jess and I also got to visit the Nespresso Boutique and Cafe and pick up some holiday goodies from Sur La Table. Now I’m officially on a mission to build out a very well-stocked kitchen while very, very caffeinated.
Oh, and Teddy finally got neutered. He was originally scheduled last spring, but he hurt his leg the same week and it was postponed until the fall so he could enjoy his summer. I bawled my eyes out dropping him off and definitely called the night nurse at the vet a few times the night he stayed over. He’s doing so well now and (sorry Ted) looks way too cute in a cone.
The biggest highlight was shooting with Teen Vogue and Sorel. This boot and this boot (duh, the name alone) were my favorites!!! I may or may not be mildly excited for snow just because my feet are officially ready. I love working with them and had an absolute great time. That work certainly did not feel like work! Way too much fun. Can’t wait to show the final results….
Now onto my radar!

I teared up looking through these. I definitely consider my mom a friend and I’ve sincerely wondered whether we would have been friends if we were the same age. These photos are incredibly touching. Moms and daughters are my favorites and the way Danielle Delph combined the photos could not have been better. Check it out and let me know if you’re as moved as I was!
An interesting look at Jenna Lyons, likeability in the office, and overall success. I just love Jenna Lyons so I’m always interested in reading about her. A friend sent me this after we were talking about careers and being “liked” at work. I know that I’m not the easiest person to work with sometimes– I can be, um, intense.

THREE // 50 people, 1 question
This.
I absolutely loved the Lemony Snicket series growing up. Such quirky, sad stories that were highly entertaining. Not going to lie, I loved the movie too. My assumption is that this is Netflix making its children’s series debut, but I hope that it’s entertaining for adults as well.
Can I move in?! Not only is it a gorgeous townhouse, it’s iconic!

Anything good on your radar?!

xoxo

PS This Nordstrom sale is KILLER. These Sperry anchor boatshoes are too cute and I’m definitely considering these nude pumps.

Love all of this! The mother daughter photos were so sweet I had to share them with my mom, and the Breakfast at Tiffany's apartment is so beautiful! If only I had a spare $8 million laying around.

On My Radar

Quite a lot on my radar this week… so let’s dive right in!

ONE // We Can Dance
So many movies have signature and memorable dances in them. I can name quite a few off the top of my head, but it wasn’t until I watched this video that I realized just how many there really are. Brought back so many memories of great movies… it’s also just awesome how seamlessly the clips are.

TWO // 9 Rules for Emailing

Well if you know me even a tiny bit, you know that I am way Type-A about my email inbox. (Here’s how I stay at Inbox Zero.) I think staying on top of your inbox is the modern day equivalent of being on time for a meeting. It’s a must. Two executives from Google share their rules for email. Great read!

THREE // News Anchors’ Epic Handshake

I’m obsessed with secret handshakes. Ever since watching the Parent Trap, I’ve always wished that I had created something insanely cool with a friend. These news anchors hit it out of the park. Beyond awesome. There are a couple of stumbles, but between the length and the sound effects, I was absolutely in stitches watching. (I want to be their friend!)

FOUR // Faribault Woolen Mill

Okay…. Garrett was telling me about Faribault while we were eating dinner in Cape May one night. Now I’m seeing it everywhere. Every. Where. Madewell has a line of exclusive scarves… and Target is going to be releasing a line of wool blankets as a partnership with the mill. Yes, please. I want everything.

FIVE // 73 Questions with Reese Witherspoon

I mean…. She’s too cute. This Vogue video series is the best. Don’t you feel like Reese could be your best friend?!

SIX // Jessica Simpson’s Home

Jessica Simpson’s house is for sale… and I’m in love. The house itself is insanely gorgeous. It looks like something out of a fairy tale. The exterior is my favorite as the design isn’t totally my style, but it’s 100% worth a peek. The house can be yours for a cool $8,000,000… but don’t forget, it comes with a 90210 zip code too!

SEVEN // Georgetown Stories

One of the best parts about blogging through college is that I have a somewhat written account of my time at school. I wish iPhones were bigger then because I love this idea of capturing video diaries throughout the entire year. 11 Georgetown students will be filming their lives on campus as the year unfolds. How awesome is that?!

EIGHT // 365 Postcards for Ants

I’m fascinated by people who have the talent to paint. Lorraine Loots started a project where she paints a tiny (I mean, really tiny) painting. The detail and precision is crazy. How does she do it?!? That little globe she painted in the video is too beautiful. You can even reserve a day.

NINE // Dog Thinks Door is Closed

Is it an On My Radar post without one funny/cute dog video? I think not. This video is too cute because the dog thinks that the glass door is closed… it’s how he ultimately gets in that will put a huge smile on your face.

TEN // Coffee with Every Facebook Friend

A man is setting out to have coffee with every one of his friends on Facebook through a project he has titled 1000+ Coffees. I personally love to meet face to face with people over virtual communication, especially since my entire job is internet-based. Putting a real face, not just an avatar or headshot, to the person is a game changer. (If a reader emails me to have coffee while she’s in town, I will say 100% say yes schedule permitting. Those coffee meetings are the best parts of my day!) I love the pictures and recaps he writes of his get togethers. Pretty powerful!

What’s been on your radar this week? Anything interesting, cute, or funny?

On My Radar

Short weeks are just the best, aren’t they?! I love having three day weekends followed by four day weeks even if that means cramming in work late at night. Note to everyone: draft emails after midnight, but don’t send until the morning. Made like 217 mistakes one night this week, luckily nothing major, but I was quite annoyed with myself.
I think the key word this week for me would be grateful. I tend to get caught up in the dust and deep in the weeds. This week, I made sure I pulled myself into quiet spaces to reflect and I was finding myself overwhelmingly grateful. Grateful in so many regards that I couldn’t possibly list. My heart felt like it was spilling over this week in the best possible way. Full heart.
If you haven’t done it in a while, I suggest spending some time finding things to be grateful for (that is, really reminding yourself of all the amazing thing). I find that the best times for me to do this is when I’m walking around and can let my mind wander and right before I go to bed so my head is filled with good thoughts when I fall asleep.
… and now, what’s on my radar!
ONE // How the top CEOs really think

This is a super fascinating series of infographics that give a glimpse into how major CEOs think. I forwarded it along to a bunch of my friends who work at startups and growing companies. You can spend a little time glancing through it or really do a deep dive and read it all… but I definitely recommend just taking a look!

TWO // Scalloped Flats

Can we talk about these shoes for a second?! I love everything from the color to the tiny, perfect heel. French Sole has a cute option too available in perfect fall colors. And you have to check out Jack Rogers’ take on the scalloped flat too, love!

THREE // Quarterlette Interview

I recently did an interview with Quarterlette! Would love it if you read it and checked out the rest of Quarterlette while you’re at it. It’s a great resource!

FOUR // Reese Witherspoon

Y’all, I couldn’t not share this… Reese Witherspoon was recently spotted carrying this iPhone case from the Minnie and Emma collection I did! She’s been photographed using this one a couple of times, but I love that she used the pink one because that is my personal favorite of the bunch!

FIVE // Maptote Sale!

Everything from Maptote is on sale right now. Today is the last day to take advantage of the 20% off… including the College Prepster bag! You don’t even have to do anything, just add it to your cart and after you type in your payment information the discount will automatically apply!

Usually I like your on my radar posts, but maybe if you don't have anything to share with us, you should just skip them. One is just an infographic (which is probably the best of all of the selections), two is yet another r-style link, three is an article about yourself that you've already linked to, four you have brought up too many times to count, and five you can't stop talking about either. The worst part is three, four, and five are all about you, and two earns you money..it's all just shameless self-promotion. You didn't link to a single news article, no other blogs, no videos, nothing.

On My Radar

This was such a fun week! So much fun in fact, that I think it got to me a bit because now I’m currently stuck with a boring, knock-ya-off-your-feet cold. I would say though that the fun was most definitely worth it!
Monday was amazing. I don’t know what it was, maybe some kind of cosmic aligning of stars or something, but it was like good news after good news… and it just got better every time.
There’s this little cafe pretty close to my apartment (Cafe Jax) and it’s really the best. It was a “best kept secret” for a while on the Upper East Side and now everyone flocks there. I don’t blame them, but now you actually have to fight for a good seat. And let’s just say, my adrenaline pumps like a cat waiting to pounce on a mouse for “the good table.” #victory
Garrett and I were invited to see Get On Up and it was a full of great music! We sang “Get Up Offa That Thing” while we walked across Central Park. (I totally only know the song from Harriet the Spy…)
And then I went into a legit sugar coma on Tuesday night sampling all of Le Meridien’s éclairs. Each hotel has a signature éclair that’s the taste of the city it’s in– along with the classic chocolate, coffee, and vanilla of course! Chef Johnny Iuzzini is going to be traveling around the world making locally inspired éclairs. We got to taste the one he made for San Francisco (omg so so so good) and make our own (sprinkles for me, duh). It was a really fun night and now I’ve been craving éclairs every day since…
I just had to share this photo of Teddy… He doesn’t like when he’s not the center of attention.

Now… onto what’s been on my radar:

ONE // No Cameras Allowed

I’m not a rule breaker. At all. Never have been and never will be. So watching this documentary trailer really made me cringe a bit when he gets turned away at the gate trying to sneak in… but it’s pretty awesome! When I first watched the trailer, it made it seem like it was a kid’s “fun” pet project. A well done, but pipe dream, project. Now it looks like it’s for MTV (aka now I think the whole thing might be kind of contrived…), but I can’t say that I wouldn’t still watch it!

TWO // Allison Williams as Peter Pan

NBC is doing Peter Pan Live and I’m pretty excited about it. I’m hoping it’s better than the Sound of Music (I just didn’t love it…) and I actually really like Allison Williams from GIRLS. I think she’s so cute and will be a great Peter! Even better? She’s been preparing for this role since she was tiny! How adorable is she in the above photo?! And even better than that?!? Her dad (aka Brian Williams) announcing it on the Nightly News… I teared up.

THREE // Mary Poppins Quits with Kristen Bell

BRB, crying of laughter. This video from Funny or Die is literally so funny. Kristen Bell IS Mary Poppins… and a hilarious one at that!!!

FOUR // The Perfect Fall Crossbody

Okay… this may just be the perfect fall bag. It reminds me of the classic Coach bags (and then the legacy/flight bags that apparently were discontinued again, ugh). The perfect size, the perfect details. The only problem is going to be figuring out what color to get. I’m leaning towards navy, but stone and wine are also gorgeous! What do you think?

FIVE // Healthy Summer Meals

It’s not a new post on Refinery29, but gosh if I don’t want to make every single one of these recipes. Especially the corn– I’ve actually been craving corn all the time. I love how fresh and tasty corn is in the summertime. On the hottest days, I can never decide what I want to eat/make. This corn on the cob is going to the top of the list!

Anything fun on your radar this week?

Carly, may I suggest that you start investing time in hobbies outside of work and your boyfriend? I fell into the same trap as you did in my early 20s–spent all of my time working or with my boyfriend. I chose to put aside volunteering, my hobbies, and my friends to make sure that I put my full effort into my job and my relationship. This kept me happy for a year or so, but then I started to feel unfulfilled. Your near constant complaining (on twitter and the blog) is showing that you, too, are clearly unhappy. Cut back your blog posts. You would be better off with fewer, better, posts during the week and actually taking the weekends off. I understand that your blog = your life, but that is not healthy for anyone, much less someone who battles anxiety. Take care of yourself Carly.

Or, if you are truly happy, cut the complaining. It's obnoxious. Your "spirit animal" Mindy Kaling agrees

On My Radar

This was certainly a weird week. I had some sort of bizarre bug that left me just not feeling great. I woke up on Sunday feeling horrible and I continued to feel bad on and off until Wednesday… when I was just too sick to do anything. Sometimes I feel like I need to take a nap in the afternoon (if I’m terribly cranky or just exhausted), but I really felt like I needed to get in bed at 11am. That’s weird for me. I set an alarm, but I must have missed it because I woke up at 3pm drenched in sweat having just dreamt the loopiest of dreams. I needed to take poor Teddy out (who was zonked from a long walk that morning) and I struggled to make it halfway around the block; I was so shaky. No bueno.

We’ve been having crazy storms here… Very entertaining to watch (from inside!!!). Sheesh. So much lightning. But this is the aftermath– quite a gorgeous sunset there.
Wrapped up things at home (aka work) early on Thursday for some city exploring. Lots of tourists and extreme heat, but it was so much fun! We stopped by the 9/11 Memorial and it was really breathtaking. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in town.

So much sweat. It’s hard to believe that six months ago we were frozen penguins in the city fighting through the polar vortex. Seeing a Del’s truck down the street was glorious. And the frozen lemonade absolutely hit the spot!!

It seems to be out of my system whatever it was, just in time for the long weekend. Since I work for myself, I need to make sure that I get some things that I have to get done and enjoy the weekend! We’re staying in town and hopefully will be able to squeeze in a few fun activities and explorations if the weather isn’t too bad!
This is partly to share and partly to bookmark for myself… You know I love me some Harry Potter. I’ve been the Wizarding World of Harry Potter before and really really really want to go back to visit the new Diagon Alley. This Buzzfeed post is amazing. 17 hidden things to look out for! Brilliant! I really love how much care they took in putting the theme park together. Harry Potter books are so special and so perfect and the theme parks are a perfect extension.

TWO // #LikeAGirl

Okay. Truth be told, I’ve seen this pop up on my Facebook feed about 400,000 times in the past week or so. It started to get on my nerves I was seeing it so much… and I finally decided to watch it. (Only to see what all the fuss was about.) It really is great. If you haven’t watched it, do it. I liked that it wasn’t acting or staged– as far as I could tell at least! And I liked the message. It was simple.

THREE // 28 Problems Every Type A Person Will Understand

Y’all! I was dying of laughter. Someone sent this to me and think it’s super spot on for the most part. Hilarious!!!!!

FOUR // David Uzochukwu

David Uzochukwu is an incredibly talented photographer…  and he’s only 15 years old. Can you believe it?! You have to check out the rest of his work. I’m blown away by his view and take on the world and the way he captures it on film. I also love the way he edits photographs. Beyond talented, a true prodigy.

FIVE // Henley History
I can’t believe it’s been four years since my boat and I raced at Henley. This video is pretty amazing… not much has changed! Dress code is the same and everything. Also, another rowing related video to watch is the teaser for my friend Jack’s Rowing Blazers book.
Hope everyone has a safe and wonderful holiday weekend!

I've actually never heard of the #LikeAGirl video, but I just watched it (thanks to you!) and I like the concept behind it. Girl power! One of the reasons I decided to commit to a women's college was so that I'd be surrounded by empowered women, be inspired by them, and ultimately, be able to inspire others as well! I'm so excited to start my freshman year in just under 2 months! // &&get well soon! I hope you're feeling better 🙂 On the bright side… Netflix marathons in bed! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

On My Radar

Can I just put it out there how I love long days. I’ve been waking up with the sun recently, taking Teddy out for long walks in Central Park. (Seriously, if anyone is up for a 6am walk with a puppy… you should come. It’s hilarious and makes me so happy and could not be a better way to start the day.) And I love that we can enjoy the outdoors late into the evening with the extra sunlight.

Something that I’ve wanted to do since moving to NYC but haven’t is walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. I’ve done it before with my family when we were younger and looked forward to doing it once the weather was nice. Earlier this week was PERFECT. A light sweater (hello, Lilly popover FTW) and the best views ever as the sun was setting over the city. Definitely something I want to do again soon– and, you know, next time we’ll have cash to actually eat in Brooklyn. #cashonlyproblems

A serious highlight of the week and a great way to kick off the summer season in the city.

… now on my radar:
I write things during the day, but it’s mostly just to-do lists, checks, or a signature here and there. (Maybe a doodle or two.) However, I certainly am not writing things at length. In high school, I would write so much during the day that my hands would cramp and my palms would be covered in various pen marks and coated in a silvery smooth coating of lead. Now? Nope, not so much. It’s iPhones, iPads, and computers for me. And a lot of schools, even elementary schools, are switching to laptops during class! So does handwriting even matter? I’d think not. (Unless you’re a pro-Instagrammer and write pretty notes in your post.) BUT APPARENTLY IT DOES. Such an interesting article!
While the advice is supposedly for 22 year olds, I think that the advice is relevant for, well, everyone. Who doesn’t need a little bit of inspiration, motivation, and guidance… regardless of age? I love it all– especially Sallie Krawcheck’s advice. She’s one of my personal favorites and is literally the sweetest person. (She’s even been to my apartment. I died!)
PS A reader emailed me this– I love when you share things on your own radar with me!
Thank you SO much for everyone’s input from this post! I’m going to get a great water bottle this weekend– the BKR water bottle suggestion is I think the best for me. I’ve already started to keep a bottle of water on my desk and opted for sparkling water after lunch instead of an iced coffee. I’m realizing it’s definitely not going to be an easy habit to put into place, but being aware of the choices is the way to start, right?

FOUR // Coca-Cola 2nd Lives
Literally one of the most creative and innovative ads I’ve seen. Leave it to Coke to come up with an amazing, eco-friendly, incredible, and eye-opening advertisement! A few of the ideas are easy, but most of them are seriously innovative! Whoever came up with this deserves a huge pat on the back. And a raise. AMAZING!
I’ve been walking a ton lately. Errands, adventures, simply walking Teddy. I made the mistake of doing a lot of walking in sandals and literally have the sorest feet right now. I should have worn sneakers, but I was just not that smart about it. Whoops. I want to just fill my closet up with all these candy colored sneakers. (Or…. omg, the purple pair!)
What’s on your radar this week?

I actually find the Coca-Cola ad to be extremely problematic. Sure, it's creative and overall a nice idea–but where is the plastic for those caps coming from? I'm guessing NOT from recycled materials (or they would have advertised it) but rather from first-use plastic (which isn't eco-friendly in any way). Besides that, the plastic that actual Coke bottles are made with breaks down relatively quickly (it's thin and designed for a single use before being recycled), especially with sun, things inside it, etc.

So essentially they're handing out these lids so that people will continue to use a Coke-branded product, keep seeing the Coca-Cola name, it will get into their brains/subconscious (because I'm sure you know that's how advertising works) so they'll go buy more Coke products with money that they can't afford to be spending…

Clever, but not actually eco-friendly, sustainable, or the most logical solution. Maybe Coca-Cola should start a recycling initiative in southeast Asia, instead of bringing in MORE plastic to a place where infrastructure for recycling is lacking.

On My Radar

I have something up my sleeves and let me tell you, it’s been a miracle and a half that I haven’t spilled the beans yet. STAY TUNED. Don’t worry, you won’t have to wait long!!!
Getting back into the swing of things after Dallas wasn’t as easy as planned. My inbox only made me cry twice this week… whoops. It was just one of those weeks. And the weather here has been annoying to say the least. Monday was beautiful and Garrett and I played hooky for a bit to go for a gorgeous run. Then we walked across Central Park for dinner on the Upper West Side. (Followed by the biggest banana split… ever. And each bite was better than the last.)
… Then it rained for basically 48 straight hours. I almost didn’t make it. The city was dark, cold, and downright miserable. Thank goodness it ended because I was about to build an ark and move right on out of state.
Oy. Vey.
Here’s what’s been on my radar!
I mean, Full House is definitely the best show ever created. I could watch every episode again and again. Some of the secrets weren’t so secret, but I did learn a few new things about the show/cast. (Thank you Uncle Jesse for not letting the show “pick” a twin!)
Annalisa Hartlaub did what has to be the best school project ever. A+, for sure. It’s such a cool concept… She took self-portraits of what she would look like in different decades.

THREE // Hamster Eating a Tiny Burrito
This video will definitely get you in the Cinco de Mayo spirit. Or at the very least, you’ll be craving a burrito. (Seriously, I had to stop myself from walking to Chipotle!) Hamsters gross me out, but this one is so cute. The biggest cheeks and oh that burrito is hilariously adorable. Like a five-star restaurant for rodents.

FOUR // Rumor has it…

That J. Crew is starting another line called J. Crew Mercantile. I imagine it will be similar to how Old Navy is to Gap. The line will be for budget-focused shoppers… and I kind of can’t wait to see what it will be like and how it will be different from J. Crew Factory.

FIVE // This commercial will bring you to tears

Oh, how motivational is that? Even though it’s a commercial, it’s subtle. Definitely a great reminder of what’s possible!

What’s on your radar this week? Any fun weekend plans?

On My Radar

Long gone (thank goodness) are the days of sleep deprivation and working around the clock. But for one reason or another, I don’t think I was getting enough sleep the past two weeks. An hour here and an hour there really got to me. by Wednesday, I was in complete zombie mode. (I woke up to walk Teddy and then got back in bed and slept until 10am.) It took about eleven hours of emailing over two days and a couple of catch-ups with friends and a few long baths to get back to normal. But I finally feel myself again! Woo!
Note to self: don’t let it get that bad again!
ONE // Entouriste
I am in full-fledged wanderlust right now. This winter made me really antsy to get out of the city; it felt especially claustrophobic to me. Entouriste is THE ultimate travel blog. It’s beautiful and the content is generated by the community so it feels extra special. I have it officially bookmarked as I dream of places to go. Even if you don’t have any trips on the horizon, going through the site is kind of a journey in and of itself… Beautiful and inspiring along the way.

TWO // Dana Williams and Leighton Meester “Dreams” Cover

Okay, first. Let’s get this out of the way first. Blair Waldorf and Seth Cohen got married. I died. Anyway. Next to dying over Leighton and Adam’s wedding, this cover is absolutely swoon-worthy. I’ve loved Leighton’s singing since Country Strong (used to listen to the soundtrack with Little V four times a day in college). One day, I had this Youtube video on repeat and I don’t regret a second of it.

THREE // Girl Meets World

I don’t read People magazine, but I made an exception for this exclusive first peek at Girl Meets World. One of my favorite shows, of course, was Boys Meets World. It makes me so giddy and excited that they’re revisiting the story… and using the original cast. PERFECTION. Also, you’ve got to watch this video if you’re as into the spinoff as I am. #lifestoughgetahelmet

FOUR // Chateau de Gudanes

Australians bought this Chateau in the south of France and they’re renovating and restoring it. And it’s all being documented on their blog. While I’m supremely jealous they own a chateau the restoration process looks beyond intimidating. Major props to them, but I’d rather watch it unfold from across the pond on my computer. Yep. It’s a huge undertaking, but watching the good/bad/ugly develop is really quite a beautiful thing. (Every time I click over to the blog, I think, “If these walls could talk…”)

FIVE // “Let It Go” in 25 Languages

I can’t stop with these “Let It Go” covers. Legitimately, cannot stop. I haven’t even seen the movie, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every cover on Youtube by now. It’s too catchy! I have to admit, I have a million favorites (#cantchoose), but this one is definitely up there. 25 languages? 25 amazing Disney cast members? World wide love for the song?! I mean… yes, please.

What’s on your radar from this week? And please tell me I’m not the only one obsessed with “Let It Go”!

xoxo

Carly, you aren't the only one obsessed with Let It Go! My 20mo old thinks it's the height of entertainment for me the blare this little ditty as loud as possible whilst I sing/scream it at the top of my lungs for him as we drive down the road… ah parenthood. Needless to say, I have developed a love for the song. 🙂

Same boat as you- haven't seen Frozen yet, but am a HUGE "Let it Go" fan!! I belt it in the shower all the time. Check out other songs from the movie, too. I feel like you'd love "Love is an Open Door". It's too adorable!

On My Radar

The first week back after a vacation is always the hardest, isn’t it? Sheesh. And this cold front again? PERFECT. Just, perfect. Plus, my sunburn is in that itchy all the time and peeling in the most disgusting way.
Here are some of the things that have been on my radar this week:

1) She’s Karlie. 2) Nate Berkus decorated. 3) It’s gorgeous. 4) When can I move in? I can’t get over how beautiful and perfect her NYC townhouse is. Every detail is perfect and I love that it’s age appropriate. (You know, as age appropriate you can get when you’re a supermodel making bank…) I follow Domaine on Pinterest on love clicking over for home inspiration– because I have not one decorating bone in my body.
TWO // Michael George

Between my involvement with SADD and Youth in Government in high school, I have met some amazing people. It’s funny how our paths cross at different points. We all got to know each other when we were young teenagers (in some cases barely 13) and we’ve kind of all stayed distantly connected with social media. One of the guys I knew in YIG is Michael George. His photography is stunning (like how incredible is this portrait?) and I’ve been following his Tumblr for quite some time now. He recently launched “Portrait of a Pilgrim.” Prepare to dedicate quite some time scrolling through the portraits and stories. Start with the introduction and work your way through the chapters. (The photo above is Michael before and after the journey!)
THREE // 73 Questions with SJP

As if you couldn’t love SJP more… Vogue put together this incredible video that gives you an inside peek at Sarah Jessica Parker’s home and great insight into her life. Kind of obsessed. Just like Karlie’s home, I’m totally ready to move in. (Can you tell that I’ve been itching for a bigger apartment?) How in the world SJP kept the questions/answers straight in her head is beyond me, but I’m totally a sucker for a cute POV video!

FOUR // Tuckernuck’s New Arrivals

Everything. I. Want. Everything. With a bunch of trips coming up and February’s astronomically high cab spending (#ouch), I’m seriously trying to cut back on my shopping right now. Tuckernuck is NOT helping the matter however. Sheesh.

FIVE // Books By State

Buzzfeed (naturally) posted a list released by Scribd of the most popular ebooks by state. Fascinating! I guess I assumed that states would have a normal distribution of popular books. But nope! Every state has different ones… crazy. A little weird and I don’t know what I really think of it all. Still fun though! Have your read the most popular book from your state? (I haven’t!)

On My Radar

It’s so weird traveling for a week and then coming back with zero concept of time. I hardly knew what day it was all week and I certainly didn’t know what time it was on any given day. Operating on a four-hours at a time basis is pretty much all I could muster.
But it was such a great week! Fridays at the end of a particularly good week feel even more sweet, right? It started off with a photoshoot with Her Campus and Ugg (it was so much fun) on Monday and then just the usual daily grind of work, but every night was full of takeout (thank you Seamless) and movies and relaxing. Snowstorm and frigid temperatures couldn’t get in the way of cozy nights!
This weekend is full of fashion week activities and getting together with out-of-town blogger friends, so I can’t wait!

Well, if that’s not spot on. The questions are entertaining… and the result is so me! I love the side-eye emoji and use it all the time. (Anyone else have a bizarre obsession with emojis?!) Take the quiz and let me know what you get– is it accurate for you too?
TWO // Passion Project

This is such an incredibly inspiring story. “It’s about the bigger picture,” says Veronika. I watched this a couple times throughout the week because I just loved the story so much. The idea, the message, the purpose. It’s all wonderful.

Tuckernuck is brilliant. Honestly, it totally takes the guess work out of Valentine’s Day presents. Perfectly curated boxes ready to be delivered. They also make great gift boxes in general, it doesn’t need to just be for Valentine’s Day! (Personally a huge fan of the Uptown Girl box!)

FOUR // GoPro Freefall

Um… Amazing! I got my sister a GoPro before her trip to Australia last summer. I always find myself watching GoPro videos online (like, this proposal! so cute!). Interestingly, I read an article this week somewhere that mentioned that GoPro is considering itself a media company now. What a great example of how a technology company can expand into different markets and industries by relying on its core strengths. Plus, with videos as incredible as this… you can’t blame them! The content is better than any advertisement that money can buy!

FIVE // Elena Shumilova

Warning, looking at these photos is going to make you want to move the country. I’ve absolutely reconsidered my city-life after discovering Elena Shumilova’s incredible photography. She captures her children, nature, and light in such an unbelievable way. The one with the ducklings? Oh, my heart melted.

What’s on your radar this week? Any fun weekend plans?

Hi Carly,

Just a quick note: it's the Empowerment Plan, not Passion Project. I live in Detroit and have worked closely with them and COTS, the shelter they partner with, and these women are even more incredible than can be captured on film. Truly inspirational!

If you like the Empowerment Plan, check out Rebel Nell- they make incredible jewelry from graffiti in Detroit and also employ women from COTS.

Thanks for profiling Detroit businesses lately- the city appreciates you!

On My Radar

Starting off with a cold and that Polar Vortex was definitely not a good beginning of the week. But, thankfully, everything went right on up from there. Impromptu dinners, Skype dates with long distance friends, movies and reading every night. And about 400 baths to warm up. Oh! And Teddy can officially go on walks so that’s been a wonderful addition to my daily routine; we already have a few different routes!
I have to say… this is one of my favorite compilations!

ONE // P&G Thank You, Mom

Bah! They’ve done it again. P&G makes the sweetest commercial about moms that left me in a complete puddle… and I think you’ll love it too. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch! Oh, I just love moms.

TWO // Unroll.me

The easiest way to start cleaning up your inbox. I signed up for this for all of my email accounts and absolutely couldn’t believe how many subscriptions I was signed up for– without even knowing. A bunch were super, super old. Brilliant and so easy. You just can bop on down the list scanning it for ones that don’t belong and unsubscribing at a rapid pace!

THREE // Things You’re Doing Wrong Every Day

Okay. Some of these are ridiculous (that t-shirt folding?!), but some are really quite useful. Plus, my mind was blown a handful of times. I spent a little bit too long one morning going through all the videos, but I found them so entertaining in a weird “life-hack” kind of way. You’ve got to check these out!

FOUR // Frozen Bubbles

Maybe one of the best things to have come from the Polar Vortex. Mother and son experimented with bubbles in the frozen temperatures… the results are kind of amazing. I really like the melted into the weird shapes and refroze again. All of the photos are simply gorgeous.

FIVE // Tory Burch and Fitbit Teamed Up

I wore a Jawbone UP band for about six months last year and I actually have a Fitbit. I found that the Fitbit was just too awkward to figure out how to wear it and afraid to leave it in my pocket and having it go through the wash. Soooo… this is all to say, I’m really excited to see the final product. But even more than that, I think this is going to be the first of MANY fashion houses partnering with technology companies. (Warby Parker + Google Glass?! PLEASE!)

(BONUS!) SIX // HBO American GIRLS Dolls

You know I love a good Buzzfeed post… but this one ABSOLUTELY takes the cake. I cried with laughter when Amy sent it to me. I basically think every single line, outfit, and accessory are spot on. I can’t wait for the new season to start. I got really into the show even though I originally didn’t love it. Anyone else a fan?

On My Radar

This has been such a strange, strange week. I started the week with the tail end of my mini-vacation in Florida. Crazy meetings, bumping into people, running around like a crazy person. I mean, I think I’m just coming off of Thanksgiving mode. Hopefully. (This is the most disorganized I’ve ever been in my entire life and it’s not a good thing. I will be spending all of the weekend cleaning and organizing and filing…. phew!)
Anyway, while I’ve been trying to drag myself back to my usual productivity, I’ve been pulling my favorite links to share as usual.

ONE // DJ Earworm United State of Pop 2013
These year recap mashups are my absolute favorite. Gosh, they’re really just amazing how they blend everything together. And it brings back so many memories, you know? (Bahah listen to the 2007 version!)

TWO // Matilda Scene Recreation

Oh. My. Goodness. My dreams may have come true!!! Some actors from Matilda recreated scenes from the movie. I can’t believe how amazingly perfect this is. If you close your eyes, it’s basically exactly the same.

THREE // “Angel We Have Heard on High” by the Piano Guys

Okay, this is the most amazing video. Talk about beautiful and amazing. I love that they filmed it with GoPro cameras. Such a fun little twist and adds a little something extra to an already incredible video. I’ve watched it a few times already… it’s a little bit mesmerizing!

FOUR // Camilyn Beth

Camilyn Beth dresses are honestly adorable. I’ve been eyeing them for a while and now that I’m getting ready for all sorts of holiday parties, I definitely needed one. (Or two possibly…) I ended up getting this one and can’t wait to wear it!

Time Magazine covers Nelson Mandela’s life in beautiful words and beautiful photographs. An incredible man he was.

You should look up Girl Rising! My school just recently screened the movie and it is incredible! The movie follows the stories of a few young girls who will stop at nothing to receive the education they deserve. I would suggest going to the website and trying to find a screening of the movie near you.

ONE // Vivian Maier
You have to read this story. Vivian is being dubbed the real life Mary Poppins… a mysteriously reclusive nanny turns out to be a secret street photographer and an incredible one at that. It’s a really interesting story and it all started after someone bought a box of undeveloped film at an auction. I absolutely must watch the documentary!
TWO // Existential Bummer
This video is an intoxicating performance of a beautiful poem. It’s a quick video (under three minutes), but I just love it. I can totally relate to the feeling that the good is a fleeting thing; something that doesn’t last forever… Jason Silva has a ton of videos and they’re all thought-provoking.
I am loving all of Anthropologie’s dresses right now. Seriously coveting quite a few things right now. I mean, can I be invited to a party every single night? I’d love to just have one for every night, thank you very much. The black polka dot dress is definitely topping my wish list. A few more of my picks below:

FOUR // Vanishing Tribes

This series is literally one of the coolest things. The photographs are… simply incredible. Truly breathtaking!!! I love being able to get a little peek at exotic cultures that are so different. Even amongst the tribes featured, the differences are particularly striking.

FIVE // Vacation spots!

I’m trying to plan a trip with friends right now during the winter. My only “musts” are that the place must be warm, relaxing, and pretty. WHERE SHOULD WE GO? Recommendations for a small group of girls are appreciated. Any place you’ve gone to and loved… or somewhere you’re dying to go to… Any and all recommendations, please!

Literally couldn't agree more with your Anthropologie statement – it's like they WANT me to be a broke college student. Obsessed with all of their little cocktail dresses right now.
I checked out the tribes article earlier as well – some breathtaking people. It makes me want to get out there and experience more.

I've taken a trip with a small group of girls to Thailand. I recommend Bangkok for shopping and any of the small islands for relaxing and swimming and massages!

Vacation suggestion – Seaside, FL (or you could also stay in Watercolour, since they're linked). So beautiful and relaxing, everyone rides bikes. It's where they filmed The Truman Show so make sure to watch the movie while your there. We go in October and April each year. It may be a little cold at the moment so an alternative suggestion is the Ritz in Cancun.

I say stay stateside just because it is easier. I know you are from Florida, so that might make it less exciting. But if you want warm, I say the Florida Keys. Also, the Bahamas are an easy travel pick. Get all inclusive deals, that takes off the pressure of food and drinks. Enjoy. I hope you have not given up Paris. It is an unbelievable memory. Maybe someday with someone very special. Rebecca

For vacation, the Dominican Republic is a quick flight and relatively affortable- there are a lot of high-end resorts that do all-inclusive packages, just do your research before you go about where you're staying. I'd reccomend the Punta Cana side of the island, it's very safe!

Charleston is always a great place to escape to in the winter! It's still gets a little chilly, but it certainly is warmer than NY! Plus, you would love the fun shops, pretty buildings, and culture of the city. Also, I happen to know of a great tour guide that can show you around downtown! 😉

Charleston is my favorite place on the planet (I actually stay 45 minutes outside on Kiawah Island – the Sanctuary is beautiful), but I also just traveled to Puerto Rico in May. It was hands down the best vacation I've ever been on. I'm already plotting ways to go back! Have fun researching vacation spots! : )

You HAVE to go to Harbour Island in the Bahamas. I went there with a group of friends and their family, and I loved it. It's glamourous, fun, warm (!) and beautiful. They have a few coastal resorts that are pricey, but with an ocean view, it seems worth it. We rented a house for all of us and it worked out great (we each had a golf cart that we drove around the island to get to places!). J Crew's CEO Mickey Drexler recently wrote in one of his articles about being there, and the island is notorious for drawing celebrities who want an under-the-radar vacation. Just my recommendation!

I definitely recommend the Virgin Islands, particular the island of St. John. I went with friends awhile back and it was incredible! The only vacation I've been on where I did nothing but relax and love it. We played at the beach every day and shopped and fished and it was amazing. I rode a wild sea turtle and my best friend caught a 5 foot shark….never in my wildest dreams did I think places like this existed. Nowhere is better.

I've seen a lot of recommendations for Charleston and I will just go and say that it still gets cold here in the winter and even snows on occassion, so I would not pick here. I've lived here all my life, so trust me! If you're going all out then go to Fiji, but for a smaller trip try St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Turks and Caicos, or Jamaica.

Maui is incredible! I stayed in a treehouse in Hana with a group of friends, and it was absolutely wonderful. You do have to rough it a bit, but that is what is so fun. Immersing yourself in nature, waterfalls, black sand beaches, and national parks is the other half!

Anguiilla is a great vacation spot – I go every year. It's super low key, but absolutely beautiful and has fantastic restaurants. There's usually some good celeb spotting too if you go in December or January!

The "Vanishing Tribes" idea is really neat, but I completely disagree with calling it "exotic" or "beautiful" or really putting any adjectives to it. It is important because it demonstrates a lot of global problems, but making it about how a cultural is "exotic" commodifies a group of diverse people with important perspectives.

On My Radar

These weekly roundups are turning into my favorite posts! All week long, I just collect these websites/articles/videos just excited to share on Friday. I love discovering new things and sharing the discoveries is even better!
ONE // “Roar” Cover by Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock
First of all, “Roar” is pretty much stuck in my head at least for an hour every single day. It’s such a catchy song! Secondly, I was kind of over the whole cover contest thing that was going on on Youtube. You know, until I watched this one. I simultaneously was smiling and bawling as I watched. It’s a good one…
I don’t like to compare, but what I like about this article is that it leaves you feeling motivated not frustrated. Sometimes I read things and think, “OMG, I’m so far behind! She was doing THIS at my age. I’ll never be successful!” (Ugh, more guilty of this than I should be…) Business Insider shares what household names were doing and, while some were already “successful,” everyone’s path was different. I found it more reassuring and inspiring than anything!
I mean… it’s perfect. The picstiches, the tags, the captions, the comments, the hashtags…. I just cannot. I read through it a few times, laughing just as hard the last time as I did the first. I’m such a Harry Potter nerd so this was 100% up my (Diagon) alley.

FOUR // J. Crew Brings Back the Cable Knit

My beloved J. Crew cable knit sweaters have seen better days. (I wear them all the time throughout fall/winter.) BUT, the problem was that J. Crew just kind of stopped carrying them. Now they are back. WOO! I’ll take a few of each, please. Shop the different styles below:

FIVE // Kevin Corrado’s Photography

I stumbled on this photo (maybe from Pinterest?) and I think it’s incredible! How awesome is it? “I stood nearly a thousand feet above sea level to get this perspective and once again put paint on my hand.” Whoa! I love the perspective.

On My Radar!

There are always a million and a half things circulating around the internet, right? I find it a little bit overwhelming… but I do love getting lost in Buzzfeed posts and Youtube videos and other articles that I find. Twitter and Facebook are always great sources for finding new gems.
The internet is full of some pretty amazing things… it just takes sorting through most of the junk to get to it.
So what’s on my radar?
ONE // Great Gatsby Monogram Maker. I found this randomly and it’s quite fun to play with. I haven’t seen The Great Gatsby quite yet, but I’m planning on seeing it this weekend!
TWO // Ice Wave. Have you seen this video? I don’t even have words. This is incredibly scary and just…. honestly, out of this world.
THREE // Eesha Khare is amazing. The 18 year old invented a device that can charge a cellphone in seconds. Seconds. You want to know how I feel about this? #GirlsRunTheWorld

FOUR // StrikingTruths.com. This is the most inspiring site, um, ever. The beautiful visuals and the amazing quotations are the best! I spend way too long going through pages and pages of these inspiring manifestos.

FIVE // You define your 20s. So many messages. Too sexual. Too lazy. Save a lot! Save nothing. Get experience. Lean In. Don’t worry about marriage. You have to find your husband now. It’s confusing!!! Who should we really be listening to? I love this (and I’m definitely the mysteriously quoted co-worker).

Let me know what else should be on my radar. Leave a comment!

And I just re-read Gatsby last week so I can go see the movie this weekend 🙂

Zach made my week. He probably will actually give hundreds of individuals a closer look at their lives. K, now I need to check out some of these other most intriguing links;)

Having grown up going to school and church with Zach and his family, it is so incredible to see how wide of an impact he made with his beautiful life. As someone who started out as a sort of "hometown hero," it's still surreal to see him show up all over the Internet, but completely not surprising given his truly inspiring message. Thank you for sharing here!

#2 is actually about 30 minutes from my home town back in Minnesota!!! That happens all the time on the lakes as the ice finally starts to melt it gets pushed up onto the shore in sheets! Too crazy, I'm so glad Minnesota made your blog!!! Much love.

LOVE that video of Zach. I had not seen it before and it deeply moved me. Thank you so much for sharing it. He understood that the whole meaning of life is to love others and to make others happy. Most people never figure that out.

Have you read The Defining Decade? We read it last month for book club. Wish I read it when I was your age! Although it had not been written yet.
