A Long Weekend in Mexico

As I write this, I’m sitting on a sunny yellow couch with the windows wide open. Both the warm air and the rolling ocean sounds are sweeping in. I would be outside, but I overdid it on the sun despite spending 30 minutes applying half a bottle of sunscreen every morning.
My parents and sister have already left for Florida and I have a few more hours here in Mexico. I have to say, even though it was a short trip, it might just be one of the best we’ve had. I’ve mentioned it before, but now that my sister and I are both full-fledged grown ups with jobs and responsibilities, I value our time as a family together even more. Spending time together in a beautiful location doesn’t hurt either.

Wearing: Cashmere Wrap // Ruffle top (c/o) // White Jeans // Sperrys (c/o) // Passport + Luggage Tag (c/o) // Suitcase (I got the medium size at Macy’s!) // Sunglasses // Earrings

My travel to Mexico was very smooth. The only “problem” was that my sister and parents were flying in at a different time than me. We coordinated so it was only an hour difference my arrival and their arrival. We ended up in different terminals and in true Carly fashion, I was paranoid that we wouldn’t find each other. (There was a rogue taxi cab trip to get to another terminal involved…) I not-so-patiently stood in a terribly crowded room right outside customs in their terminal and miraculously spotted my sister after what felt like an eternity of scanning the room.

Once we got to the hotel, we immediately went straight to the beach while waiting for our room to be ready… then slipped into bathing suits and soaked up the sun until dinner! My favorite part of the trip is that because we weren’t there for that long (and because we’ve already been to the area and did the whole Tulum excursion), we opted to just relax. It was great not having to be anywhere or do anything.

Wearing: A Kate Spade One Piece // Sunhat (it keeps selling out and restocking, so keep checking back if it’s unavailable. I’m obsessed with it and wore it all weekend!) // Sunglasses (c/o)

Wearing: Yoga Pants // Sports Bra

On Saturday morning, we all slept in. My sister and I did a little yoga on the pier before breakfast.

Wearing: Rikshaw Designs Tunic (c/o) // Hat // Sunglasses

We split our time at the beach and the pool, again doing nothing other than snoozing and reading. (I finished Paper Towns in one day. Such a good, light read!)

We stayed at the Excellence Riviera Cancun and while my family typically prefers the beach to hotel pools, the pools at the resort were amazing! First of all, there were many different pools to choose from, some loud and fun and others more peaceful and quiet. We loved the lazy river pool… I could have spent the entire weekend just floating!

I didn’t do any spa treatments, but the building was so beautiful.
Wearing: Tunic (c/o) // Shorts // Sandals // Old bag (as seen here) // Sunglasses
By Sunday, I was pretty sunburned. Despite my best sunscreen efforts. Let’s call this one, black and white and red all over.
Wearing: Sunglasses // Bandeau // Bikini Bottoms // Sun Shirt (slipped into this in the afternoon)
In the afternoon, we went snorkeling right by the hotel. We took a glass bottom boat not too far out to where the reef was… wow! So many fish. We didn’t see any turtles (sad…), but we did see the biggest barracuda I’ve ever seen, a tiny octopus, a starfish that looked like a tarantula, the cutest squid (my favorite), and hundreds of fish.
Wearing: Eyelet Dress // Tote (c/o) // Sunglasses
And our final sunset!

Man oh man am I beyond jealous of your trip! A relaxing beach vacation is just what I need – especially with it still being freezing here in Boston even though it is officially Spring! On the upside I still get wear my cozy winter sweaters and boots. Although, your bathing suits and tunics have officially put me in the craving Summer spirit. How long until school is out? I absolutely love that Rickshaw tunic too 🙂 Hope you had an amazing mini vacay and welcome back to the still frozen tundra that is the East Coast.

Looks like such a great weekend getaway! I've lived in Arizona for quite a few years now but still haven't gone to Mexico – I really hope to do that eventually! I am definitely a girl who loves exploring and doing different things, but spending days in and just relaxing are always some of the best ones! Love your swimsuits and I'm dying over the look of that spa building!

What an amazing trip! You all did so much in a just a few days.

Love the Old Navy Eyelet dress! I've been eyeing it for a while and with 30% off until 3/26 I think it is time to pull the trigger.

Hi Carly!
I hope this isn't too personal, but I know you've posted a few times before that sometimes clothing is hard for you because of your chest size. I'm built very similarly to you and have the same issue, especially with maxi dresses! Your bathing suits are always so cute…would you mind doing a post on suits, tips, and tricks to fitting our narrow frames without losing the battle for modesty?

Looks like such a great getaway! I love the tunic you sported with the jean shorts! What a cute little combo. I do hope that life back in the city isn't treating you too harsh after such a warm weekend…

Thanks for the great post, Carly! I enjoyed following along via Instagram while I was beach(ed) on my couch sick all weekend. It definitely brightened up my dreary Ohio view 🙂

I finally caved bought the ON dress after seeing how perfect it was on ya – next up are those Sole Society heeled sandals – perfect vacation attire. Leave it to you to look adorably chic whilst being sunburnt.

This post makes me dream of the beach even more than I already was! Mexico looks fabulous – definitely on my bucket list of places to visit. And I'm the same way with sunburn; even if I apply a ton, I still get burnt! At least it's always worth it! 🙂

Loved your Kate Spade swimsuit! How classy yet sweet. I've been looking for some lovely swimwear for a while now but haven't found anything as nice as this. By the way you have the cutest family. I love that you still go on vacations together 🙂
