On My Radar

This week was just so much fun. I had a few meetings that went well, but it was my photoshoot with Stylewatch Magazine on Wednesday that made the week amazing. When they asked if I was interested in doing it, I said yes before I gave myself time to think about what would be involved.

I was in the first group of girls first thing in the morning. I showed up completely bare-faced with bedhead and walked out with about two pounds of makeup and the best curls I’ve ever had in my life. I got a little preview of the photos, and I’m really happy with how they turned out. It took a village to get ready, but the four hours of hair/makeup was worth it I think.

Beyond just having a great time and it being such a cool experience, it was also pretty amazing for a body confidence exercise. Picking out a bathing suit that I felt amazing in was the first step and the actual day-of was the second half. I’d consider myself a pretty modest person. (I was always the girl changing in the bathroom at sleepovers and in a stall during PE class.) Doing a bathing suit shoot with a magazine leaves very little room for modesty– I was essentially (aka definitely) naked for a few hours as people painted me with body makeup to fake a tan. And then two people had to help me step into the bathing suit to avoid getting the makeup on it… you can imagine how close we became in those short three minutes. 😂

Anyway, the photos looked amazing and we had so much fun! Here’s what is on my radar this week:

ONE // Talbots Tweed Jacket

If you saw my snaps last week, I got the Talbots catalog and fell in love with this tweed jacket. I had bought a much more expensive one from J. Crew last year but didn’t completely love the fit of it… I’m SO glad I returned it because the Talbots version looks perfect. And it’s currently on sale right now!!!

TWO // Elementary School in the 90s

Okay, this Buzzfeed listicle brought back so many memories. It actually freaked me out how accurate it was and I got that creepy Deja Vu feeling reading the whole thing. Some of the things I remember like yesterday and others I had completely forgotten about (like Kid Pix?!?! omg) and the memories came flooding back.

THREE // Proposals in 2017

I had tears rolling down my face watching this video. It’s so hilarious and outrageous, but also… is it? I think we all have at least one friend who’s like this 😉

FOUR // Robert Irwin

There is something so incredible about watching Steve Irwin’s son grow up. (Bindi too, I love her.) He’s so similar to his father and his passion for animals just shines through. Jimmy Fallon holding that big sloth made my day!!!

FIVE // Girl Invents Glitter-Shooting Prosthetic

A GLITTER SHOOTING PROSTHETIC. Let that sink in…. I mean, so cool. 11-year-old Jordan Reeves was born without a hand and she’s become not only an advocate for people with limb differences, but an inventor of prosthetics with the help of 3D printing. I was blown away and inspired by her story.

I can’t wait to see the magazine when it’s published! I’d be so intimidated in a situation like that.
That article about Elementary School in the 90s was amazing!!! It’s so strange what your brain stores. That blue calculator took me right back to taking the FCAT…

What a fun experience! Can’t wait to see the magazine and rock the swimsuit body confidence! It’s so cool to hear your feeling strong from new work outs! I agree that when I workout I feel so much better about myself and so much stronger! It’s addicting. Wow, that is crazy though 4 hours of makeup/hair. Your eye shadow looks super pretty!

Omg even though I went to elementary school in the early 2000’s I can still relate to over half of that stuff in the article lol 😂 Can’t wait to see more pictures Carly!

Girl, you’re brave for doing the bathing suit thing! I’m pretty modest, too, and I’m not sure if I would have the courage to bite the bullet and let someone dress me in a bathing suit! Talk about getting outside of your comfort zone!
