Tony Awards Gala

Attending the Tony Awards Gala last year was so much fun and I really hoped I would be invited by IBM again. Garrett, unfortunately, was working an overnight, so I asked my friend Carolyn to join me.
With the tragedy that happened in Orlando early Sunday morning, it felt strange to be celebrating and having a great night. But I also think it was the perfect event because, as Lin-Manuel Miranda put it, we need to “fill the world with music, love, and pride.”
And, “love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love cannot be killed or swept aside.”
I think that is what the world needs a lot more of.
I ended up going with striped ball gown. It’s hard to tell in the photos, and I didn’t realize it until I opened the package, but the dress is actually navy and silver! It’s definitely stunning, and I felt so good in it. Plus it has pockets. Winning.
Carolyn wore this hot pink gown; I love that we both went for something a little different than the usual black and red. Doesn’t she look great??? We had a ton of fun snapping photos with my fave Carter Fish.
With the halter, I knew I wanted to an updo. It was also so windy that I’m glad my hair was pulled back. It ended up looking a bit different than the inspiration photos I had brought it, but I loved the knots, braids, and curls.
The IMB watch party was in midtown west and then the gala was at the Plaza. Seeing all the Tony winners (including the cast of Hamilton!), our favorite celebrities, and the one and only James Corden was really exciting.
I always struggle to find a good evening bag for gowns. Sometimes they’re too cheesy or too hard to truly match. I went in search of a navy clutch and didn’t have to go too far… I knew Design Darling would have the perfect one.
I knew my shoes wouldn’t actually be seen in the gown, but I still couldn’t say no to these navy bow heels.

You both look absolutely stunning!!! 🙂
Using this opportunity to thank you, Carly. I have been reading your blog since the very beginnings (I think a few months after you started) and it is still the first thing I read every time I sit down in front of my computer 🙂 I love following along with your journey, and you inspire me to follow my dreams.
Best wishes all the way from Switzerland

Yes! The striped gown was my favorite choice! It looks to be so 'you,' and fit you beautifully. I also loved your choice of clutch – glad you mentioned it as well; that really can be one of the hardest parts of accessorizing a formal look.
What a fun event – I'd be lying if I didn't say I was super-envious. The Tony's are the one awards show I'd die to see in person.
Brava!
