A Nantucket Bike Ride

This sounds a little strange, but part of me loves riding bikes, and the other part of me is terrified of it. I’ve done more bike riding this year than I think I ever have as an adult, and I have mixed emotions about it. I was reminded of how scary it could be in Paris as we were riding next to traffic and crossing major intersections every thirty seconds. It was not for the faint of the heart.

(I also have this possibly irrational fear of bumping tires with the person riding ahead of me.. or someone hitting mine from behind. Anyone else?!)

Anyway, there are plenty of pretty roads to ride bikes on through Nantucket. (You can also do more intense and long rides if that’s what you’re into.) I prefer taking the quieter, scenic route. I like to go nice and slow and look at all the houses; I won’t be signing up for a triathlon anytime soon.

This gingham top filled a void in my closet that I didn’t know I had. I love the sleeveless look, and the built-in tie waist just completes it. I’m always on the hunt for simple, well-constructed pieces to add to my closet that I can wear for years to come. And this one fits the bill!

My one tip for bike riding? Don’t forget your sunscreen! Trust me; I learned the hard way. Even a 30-minute ride on a cloudy afternoon can leave you an unpleasant burn.

I wish I lived in a town that was a little bit more bike friendly. I have a bike down at my parent’s house in Florida, and it’s so much fun to zip around the neighborhood.

I love riding bikes through neighborhoods, but definitely not in a city or busy area. People are crazy drivers and I don’t trust them! But, a casual ride looking at homes is one of my favorite things to do!

What a cute outfit! I never think of biking but I always have fun once I do it. Hope you had better luck biking in white pants than I did– I rented a bike at the beach earlier this summer and I ended up with some awkward stains on my white jeans from a dirty seat!

Love this post but would also encourage folks to always wear a helmet, too!

I love this outfit for a bike ride! I have a pink Schwinn, but I haven’t gotten the chance to use it in so long (hard to transport to a trail) that it’s gotten rusty!
Love your blog!

Super cute top! Madison, Wisconsin is SUPER bike friendly city if you’re ever looking to explore a bit more of the midwest!

Carly, I have the exact same biking fears that you do! I love to bike but I also find myself scared of it. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who feels this way! Also, the fear of bumping tires with someone turned into reality for me once already this summer. Left me with some scraped up knees and a fear of getting back on the bike. Eventually I got back to it! Love your posts! Keep up the awesome work!
