Casual

Oui, Oui!

Remember when I wore a beret last winter? I was seriously hoping the trend would stick around. I have always loved berets. (My sister and I had a few from Gap Kids back in the day, and I would convince her to match with me, mostly because I didn’t give her a choice.) They’re everywhere now, and I couldn’t be happier.

A beret definitely screams cooler weather to me. While we had a few chilly days, the heat seems to be back with a vengeance. I’ve been trying to challenge myself to put together cute outfits for this in-between season. A nod to fall without actually melting.

Talbots sent me this red beret (the red has since sold out, but here’s a similar one). I honestly can’t wait to wear it this holiday season too. It feels so festive already!

But for a September look, I went with stripes and a denim skirt. Feels très French.

I have been on the fence about denim skirts for a while. I wore tiny little denim skirts every day in high school, and I had the hardest time shaking that mid-2000 feel. But, I finally went for this one from Madewell, and, well, I have to admit that I love it. You just can’t go wrong with denim… and especially when it’s too hot for actual jeans!

It really is such a simple outfit. (The only way I like to dress nowadays!!) If you’re unsure about the beret, it looks just as cute without one too.

French Inspired Outfit

My shirt is older (here it is in other colors), but I found a nearly identical one with the red/cream stripes.

I think you’re the only person I’ve ever seen pull off a beret! And I love how you included the denim skirt; I’ve always been a little leary of them since they’re not classically preppy, but you’ve styled it beautifully here!

I loooooove wearing berets but I feel like I can’t pull them off without looking like I’m trying too hard to achieve French girl chic? I indulged during my visit to Paris but despite how practical it was for the winds and how cute it looked, it seemed like I was becoming a character, like French Starr instead of Starr – now with a beret! Haha I don’t know if that makes any sense at all, but this red one is so cute on you, Carly!

I love that the denim skirt is making a comeback. I too wore my share of denim skirts in high school! But I love that they are a little longer and more grown up than the ones we wore in the early 2000s!

So is it really okay to go belt-less when there are belt loops? I prefer it, but never know if I am breaking some rule.

Your adorable!! I wore short Hollister and Abercrombie skirts alllll the time in highschool shahaha. I never thought I’d get back into the skirt trend but I’ve been eyeing a few online that I love lately! Maybe I will be sporting a new denim or suede skirt soon.

I’ve been hesitant to jump (back) into the denim miniskirt trend. I used to wear them every chance I got from middle school through high school, so it feels a little weird for that trend to cycle back around, but I secretly love it.

The Madewell choice feels more grown-up (nothing like the old Limited Too ones…) and looks great, so I may have to order one! xo
